    Front windshield sun shade

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I need to get a sun shade for my front windshield. I've always used CoverCraft UVS100's on my other cars. High quality, thick, folding, custom cut to fit the windshield. Their website shows model # UV11094 is for 2009 A4's, so that should fit the S4 just fine.

Anyone have any other recommendations before I buy another CoverCraft? It needs to be thick so it won't sag, and must fold (no roll-up ones).

Other then Covercraft, seems most custom windshield sun shades (including Audi's windshield shade) are roll-up type. I think Covercraft maybe your only choice if you are looking for folding shade.

Have you looked into clear tint? They have some now which only blocks about 2-5% visible light but blocks 98%+ of infared and UV, which damage the dash and makes the car hot.

I was considering clear tint today. My tint guy uses Solar Gard and the lightest they've got looks to be 76% of visible light transmission for automtive films, but they have high 80's on residential films. I'll have to see what he says on that stuff. I don't need any hassles from the police on front windshield tint, And that's something they like to hassle for randomly here.

I'd like to get some of that for my windshield - any idea on who manufactures it?

I wonder if using a sun shade will help eliminate the problems some are having with the LCD screen going blank with extremely hot temps?

I'm wondering the same thing. I've never been a big fan of sunshades but a black on black S4 sitting in the sun for 10 hours in the kind of weather we've had lately does get a tad warm even with 35% tint.

Anyone else order the Cover Craft UVS1000 windshield sunshade? Did the '09 A4 sunshade fit the '10-'11 S4?

I have Huper Optik on the windshield and while it helps I am still going to use a sun shade. 115 degree heat is just to harsh for tint alone.

There was an Audi MMI TSB on that, where it set the max temp for the display higher.

I have the windshield tint too it was carbon xp film...80% I think. It makes a big difference in allowing the AC to cool the car quickly and effectively, but a car parked all day in the Florida Sun is still baked. The tint alone might be effective in the northern parts of the country though. The only distortion I notice is a slight purple haze when wearing polarized sunglasses. I've kind of gotten used to it though.

Probably help a little as when I use the Audi sunshade it is a little cooler inside and won't fry the MMI.Without that and the (35%) tints,it's like a freakin oven with the BB.

Second request ("dpncos" asked the first time)....does anyone know for sure that the CoverCraft folding sunscreen listed for the 2009 A4 will fit our 2010-2011 S4's?

Resurrecting this thread as I just purchased the Covercraft folding sunscreen, and it did NOT fit. It was too wide (buckled slightly in the middle to fit), and too tall (had to really jam it to fit under the rearview mirror). Was really disappointing as many websites say that the Covercraft A4 fits the S4. In fact the label on the Covercraft said 2009-2012 Audi A4/S4. At the end of the day I did not like the fit and decided to return the Covercraft, which is too bad given that I liked their style.

I traded in my '04 330i for my S4. The BMW sunshade (folding) from my BMW fits the S4 well.

And the fact that says "BMW" on it gets a lot of second glances.

I'm pretty sure our windshields (and maybe the other windows) block 99% of UV rays from coming in.

At least my photochromic lenses seem to think so.

And I think the heat is not prevented just by blocking UV rays, but it no doubt prevents fading on interior ...

I'll throw in my experience with 3M Crystalline tint for the windshield. Had it on my GTI and just had it put on the S4 over the weekend...works really well.

I went with the CR 70 that transmits 69% of visible light, 50% TSER (Total Solar Energy Rejected), and 97% infrared rejection. No one's ever noticed and no one ever will.

OP, why are you trying to stay away from roll-ups? I think they are incredibly neat and can easily be stored.

I did the same thing (E46 M3 sunshade in my 2012 S4). To make it right I wrote in black marker right above the BMW lettering in small type "EATS".

Hmmm ... I purchased a Covercraft for our 2011 S4 last month (May '12) and it fit just fine - same style number (UV11094BL), although ours was "BL" (blue) and yours was "SV" (silver). Here are my comments from a previous post:

    Covercraft UVS100 Ultra-Violet Shield ... pics included

With the onset of 90+ degree weather, I finally decided to purchase a windshield sun screen for our car. After some research here and on other sites, we decided on the Covercraft UVS100. I wanted something with a custom fit for the S4, and with laminated panels, since ones I've had in the past were fits-all sized, sagged a lot, and a pain to use. I also liked Covercraft's option of a light blue metallic color instead of the usual silver - it's a close match to our Jet Blue car. Finally, I opted for a storage bag to keep the screen in when it's not in use. I purchased on-line from autosportcatalog.com: $49.95 for the UVS100 Heat Shield, $7.95 for the storage bag.

Anyway, I took a few pics in the garage just now, to illustrate the fit and finish of the shield. It's difficult to discern true colors in these iPhone pics, but if you're thinking of getting a windshield sun screen, the UVS100 is worth the price IMO.

I will say that since it is a more rigid fan-fold design, it's easier to install with my wife and I both placing it in the windshield, although I've done it solo just fine as well.

Wow, that looks nice and is the reason I wanted the Covercraft to work!! I'm not sure why mine fit so differently than yours...do you have any problems fitting it beneath the rear view mirror? On the backside of your sunshade there is a white label that has the model number, can you confirm it says UV11094 and that it says its for a 2009-12 A4/S4?

I had no problems fitting mine beneath the rearview mirror. The key is following the directions step #1 explicitly (see below). With the shade completely opened/unfolded, slide the lower edge all the way to the bottom of the windshield. This is the most difficult step because the rigidity and bulk of the unfolded panel may require you to get out of panel's way as you move it into place. Then as shown in step 2, lift the top edge (it will clear the mirror easily) to the top of the windshield and fold down the visors to hold it in place. Pics of the white label, the instructions, and completion of step 1:

(BTW, I don't leave my V1 on the dash when the sunshade is installed! I just took these pics to illustrate fitting the shade ..)
