How do you put the "jack" back into its "place"? (the widomaker)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Now how the hell do you exactly fit the stock jack back into its place, sure i found a way to take it out the first time i ever needed it but since then i must be doing something wrong because i cant figure out how to put this pos back in properly. I know many of you probably dont even have it lol

I just remember that it fits into a case that slides in on the left side of the spare tire. I haven't taken it out for a long time though. A floor jack is a ton easier and safer.

Glad I'm not the only one that had a problem with it. I think I stood there and spent half an hour trying to figure the damn thing out and I would not be able to get it back in if I were to take it out again.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL. Just relax, deep breath, and you will figure it out. I had the SAME problem too and eventually it just fit right in. And yeah sorry dont have actual instructions. And no you are not dumb. It happens to most who use their widow maker the first time and try to put it back. I now dont even bother and keep a tire flat spray can in my car. I dont have TPMS so I dont have to worry about it getting messed up by the tire flat spray.

You throw it away, because it's proper place is the in trash.

My first widowmaker collapsed on me, luckily no damage or injury. Needless to say, I now keep a standard scissor jack in my car for emergencies.

Dam! No pics or instructions? Just pulled mine out to use it and like a rooky didn't make note of how it fit in there. So 15 minutes later, still won't fit.

Besides this, any way to explain how the effing thing fits in there:

"the arm goes BEHIND the jack and that side goes in first"

+1, I'd recommend replacing them with a scissor jack - they don't take up much space either and are less prone to collapsing, as far as I know.

That said, this thread is pretty funny!

    Those wacky engineers!

This is hilarious. A guy at the gas station had put his VW jetta up to change the tire, but ran the car up with the jack upside down...and the thing collapsed. I offered to help, and he pulled my jack out before I saw how it was in it's spot. I'm a pretty handy guy, but this thing is quite a mystery! It is worrisome that so many of you have had the stock jack collapse on the side of the highway. I'm going to have to snoop around to find something else. (I already have a floor jack for use at home). Anyone have a suggestion (maybe a link) for something portable that is better than this thing?

    ^ Bingo.

The arm has a small bend it in, see photo below. This has the jack in the right way, but the arm is on the wrong side, so the plastic cover won't close.

Make sure that the bend is lined up with the angle cut corner in the jack, the black rubber of the handle should be in contact with the jack, and it will pop back in:

Alright so I know this has been dead for four years, but I had to use this thread today once I changed my flat out with the spare and used the widowmaker (which I was terrified of...). And truth be told, there still isn't a good idea for what its supposed to look like when it goes in. So, for other people who may (will) have my predicament, here is the exact orientation of how the jack needs to be.

I wouldn't say "force" was needed, but I did have to push the arm a little to lie flat against the backside. It'll bend into place.

Nice. I've always used a real jack. But I might practice with the scissor jack for a "just in case" scenario.

^ yeah I mean Ill never use that to do anything planned but as a last resort its better than nothing! Worked fine doing my flat to spare switch out too, in a -4 windchill, and ice all on the bottom of the car. I just felt around for the metal frame edge, planted the jack seat and went to town. Didn't even lean like it normally does!
