most of the matte black cars you see are just vinyl wrapped... a whole car wrap can run you between 1200-5000... depending on who, and what product.

^ive never seen a wrap for that price, most quotes are double that.

you figure a full paint job from a place will run around 3k, since you local, I know a few places that might do it for less.

I know of a place that will do it for under 3k aswell (located right next to CSLA). Are you sure you aren't talking about a Satin Black paint job?

I had my RX7 painted Satin Black, it isn't any cheaper than painting it with normal paint, same prep and labor. After owning it this way for about a year, there are some negatives, you can't buff out scrathes, and I had my bumper repainted in the front, it is hard to match the sheen if something is repainted.

And here is the best part about the car:

the correct paint would be NPL Superblack, its hard to get and not cheap but it is 96% or 97% light absorbent, and is known to make both radar and laser guns police use to clock your speed not work

I did my entire car for around $300. A GOOD job will run you $2000+. I don't know if I would recommend to DIY this. It is very very very hard for someone who hasn't used vinyl before.

Vinyl is defiantly the way to go. Actually to have your painted Matt requires some HIGH (PITA) maintenance. As stated above "Mufflerman-it is hard to match the sheen if something is repainted."
