Shaking and sputtering idle on startup ??? WTF??

My girlfriend drives the car to work each day so she end up driving 90% of the time. It happened 4 times in the past 2 weeks. Car has 8000km (5000miles). 2.0T - Manual trans.

Very rough idle on cold startup. Last for 10 seconds, then stops. Unfortunatly, it hasen't happened while I was in the car...

Anyone has experienced something similar?

I love this car but so far, not impressed. 3 weeks after we purshased the car, we had a warning light telling us that the adjustable light where faulty. Diagnosed and they found out the entire passenger side light will need to be replaced. Looks like the electric motor inside the lens failled or something... Now this rought idle issue... car's not even 3 month old... Last week, at 7000km, we received a low oil warning. I had to put in 1L of oil to bring the level back where they belong.... never seen a car take so much oil... But since it's brand new, I'll let it pass the 10,000km mark untill I pass on any judgments on this...

Anyway...

I had a terribly rough idle (but it did not go away after 10-15 seconds) that turned out to be a busted intake manifold. The dealer replaced it and all was well again. I know the car can idle a little rough on cold starts, which is normal, but I wouldn't describe it as shaking and sputtering.

No oil leaks that you can see or any burnt oil coming out the exhaust?

has happened to me twice (5000km) so far.. maybe 2 months apart..would be cold start. I just turn the engine off, wait a few seconds, and start it back up and runs fine... Will get the dealer look at it at 8k service.

happened to me two days in a row. lasts about 5 seconds where it can't make it to 1200rpm, tries, tries, struggles, eventually gets there.

same thing happen over here, but only twice. i dont rmb it being a cold day either

cold start..as in sitting for 8+hours etc.. since I know its been 30-40C outside when it has happened to me..

Of course when I say cold start, I just mean that the engine is cold. Outside temp. is 20-25 degre c. (70-75 f )

I wish it would've happened when I was in the car...

No oil on the garage floor, never noticed anything out of the exhaust... I very rarely drive with my head out the widow

Happens to me every now and again as well. Lasts a few seconds and then all is well. Just assumed it was no biggie. No other warning signs here regarding burning oil or anything like that....

Apparently a bunch of us are having this issue. The car is actually misfiring, the EPC and Check engine light will go on, and the car seems it is about to stall out. After 10-15 seconds the secondary air pump will kick in and both lights are gone and the car will idle fine. From the other thread that was posted they said that coil packs are sensitive to high humidity which causes theses misfires and had their coil packs replaced by the STEALERSHIP. I do notice that this happens to me during high humidity days, and the car starts and does this rough idle. I just "blip" the gas pedal which makes the secondary air pump kick in and the idle smoothes back out. Unfortunately I haven't been to the dealer to ask about this, cause it hasn't happened since 1 month ago. I tried to scan for codes but no luck.

Happened to me in my A5 around 3 weeks ago. I just turned it off and turned it back on. Been running fine since. It was around 3k miles when it happened.

I have experienced this with my A4 on numerous occasions, approx 3,800 miles so far. I definitely live in a humid city in the south.

My 09 3.2 with only 900 miles has just started doing it too! Ran so rough on start up I thought someone was shaking the car.

Since buying the car a month in a half ago, I've noticed the whole car shaking and rough idle at cold start. Next Monday it's going in due to this persistent shaking. My car is at 11k+ miles and that is definitely annoying.

Definitely keep an eye on it to make sure but it sounds like what was discussed last year. Sounds like what I experience from time to time. It is definitely disconcerting to have happen as one expects this type of car to feel totally tuned at all times but the rough idle at startup is apparently known and deemed 'normal' or 'expected'.

2.0T engine has been nominated as one of "ten best" engine in the industry by Ward. This problem belongs to a Lada, not on a brand new Audi for crying out loud.... I have a 1968 Beaumont and it has never run like that on startup, even on humid day! This hole thing is just a shame for Audi...

It just started happening to me two days ago... thought it was just a one time thing but it did it again today... Gonna mention it when I take the car in this weekend for the high speed steering wheel shake....

Car will be in monday morning, anxious to see what they'll find out... My hopes aren't too high.... Did any of you guys had to put in a liter of oil in the first 5000 miles ??

Also, 1.5h to change the oil on this car? Is this correct or the service guy is lost in fog?

is that to do a complete change (100%) of the oil, or merely top it off?

Car is due for it's first service, so it's for a complete oil change. But 1.5h ?? AN oil change is usualy done in 30min or so, even faster on some car... why 1.5 h? Is there any parts uninstall involved??

i did, my stealership thought it was weird but no one else did. completely normal. the 1.5h is on par with my first service, i thought it was a little long also

Crap this problem is occuring more often than I thought. Happened again this morning at like 20 degrees, no humidity, cold start. I did floor it last night though to the redline. My friend with an 09 stasis flash never had this problem before

I have this happen at least three times a week on a cold start. I just give it a little gas and it corrects itself. I will take it to the dealer next week and report.

Can you guys report miles cuz I haven't had this issue. However, I'm wondering if this is an early on issue or develops with later mileage.... or mileage doesn't figure.

I'm also having the creaking clutch, but not sure if this will be reproducible at the dealership.

12 K miles.

6,500 miles and not a problem with mine. only really drive it on the weekends and a lot of miles are from driving on the highway/freeway.

maybe everyone needs to take it on high speeds once and a while??

im at 11,500km and this happens like an average of once every 2 months? but happening more frequent now. my friend with his stasis flash havent even heard of this problem at 25,000km.

could somebody please ask the dealer at their next service/visit and report back what do they have to say? does the coil packs really need replacing? I'm getting worried, this will look ugly if my passengers get in my car and it starts shaking frantically.

Never had the problem on 09 B8 (15K miles) and the 10 B8 with 2K has not experienced it either.

12 K miles.

There's a TSB for the creaky clutch, search the forum for it.

Yup, thx. I think NJned posted one. I'm not too worried about that. Just isn't frequent enough to be reproducible at the dealership right now. I'm gonna wait and let them cool off after replacing the control arms. I got my car back with the front bumper curbed and added scratches at the bottom of steering wheel. Anyhow.

The startup is what I'm worried about. At first I thought there was something wrong too, but then realized that it was normal. My first 4 banger, and the engine idles loudly and ticks, while sometimes creating very DEEEeep bass at startup idle. Heard especially when the automobile is enclosed.

Mine did this today for the first time. 95 degrees outside and humid. First start of the day, sounded weak and was hovering around 600-700 rpms. I stabbed the gas a bit and it went up then settled into the normal 1100 rpms like the ususal start up rpm range.

Actually, come to think of it. This has happened to me. The car wouldn't start. I took the key and restarted just fine. I totally forgot, it was miles ago...

I have the same problem sometimes. It happened this morning as a matter of fact. I never really worried about it since it always goes away fairly quickly once the engine warms slightly.

Even if it's nothing serious, and it goes away on it's own, I still think it's much more serious than if something would break.... When something break, you usualy have a part of responsibility as a driver... maybe you pushed too hard or just didn't care... but this is a problem affecting probably well over 50% of all B8...

I hope we'll see a serious response from Audi about this issue. It's must be corrected ASAP.
