How bad are the cracks? Pictures?

If the bumper is made out of fiberglass, the best way to get rid of the cracks will be to sand down the surrounding area of paint, filling the crack with an epoxy, one layer of fiberglass and bondo to even everything out. Thats the guaranteed fix.

if its made out of polyurethane/plastic, it'll be a good idea to plastic weld the back then just use any kind of quick epoxy to shape/fill in the crack and sand evenly/bondo if need be.

Or if you just want a quick decent looking fix (imo) stitch it with zip ties :)

Can't see the crack but for my s4 bumper that was cracked through I just super glued it together (used a WHOLE container of superglue) and bondoed it front and back then sand the front side down smooth and had it painted.

I had a crack on my bumper.. a pretty big one..

I used resin with a mosquito net structure instead of the fiberglass.
Then i used bondo on the surface to smooth out the crack
Its been 9 months now and still holding strong
...there is no real diy, just common sense once you got the bumper off

+1 Rep on the DIY (If you do it). Do you guys usually take the bumper to the bodyshop to get it painted after the fix or paint it yourself? What paint do you use if you do paint it yourself and how do you usually prep since the rest of the bumper is already painted?

Like others said, fiberglass resin would be a good way to go. When I bought mine, i picked it up at Home Depot. It's easy to work with too, I fixed the floor of my other car successfully the first time using it.

I cant see the cracks. You want to use fiberglass matte NOT cloth. its stronger and spider webs out for more strength. Small cracks, keep it simple and skim it with bondo. Take your time sanding it. As this will be your final result.

Side note: How would he paint it if he wanted to keep it a true DIY?

SEM makes a product called problem plastic, reiger bumpers are made of ABS at least I thought. This stuff works for every thing.

Some brands of body filler will crack over time, so be careful of which brand you go with.

X2, I've seen It happen. Makes me not too big of a fan with bondo, especially on a piece that bends a lot.
