Anyone upgrading / replacing subframe mounts?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just curious if anyone is replacing or upgrading their sub frame mounts when they do a decent sized build.

I have 034 track density engine, trans, snub w/cage, Stern power ring and Stern diff mounts. Should be pretty locked down. Just looking for others thoughts.

Car is not back together yet. Hopefully by sunday I will be driving it. I expect the car to be extremly loud and very vibratory. I expect to be hearing a lot of road noise as well as tranny and engine noise in the cabin. I would not say a mod like this is for everyone. As it changes the car completly and takes it one more step closer to track car. My car was built with that intention as well as not my dd. So it doesnt bother me.

Keep up with my build thread and Ill let ya know how it feels when I finally turn key.

As posted above the OEM bushings are a humongous pain in the ass to remove. And the diameter of the 034 bushings was not the same so I had to do quite a bit of machining then used a press to finally get them in place. Only one of them went in by hand and one more by hammer. The other 6 required a press.

picked up all the aforementioned mounts/bushing for my build:
034 motor mounts, 034 tranny mounts, 034 snub mount w/ cage, Apikol rear diff mount, 034 front subframe bushings, 034 rear subframe bushings, 034 Rear diff carrier

but will not be installing them on their own. will get to them when i pull the motor/tranny

I will say 034 has an upgraded rubber bushing and I installed the aluminum bushings. THe rubber ones are much more street friendly. And a good choice if you have already upgraded the rest of the mounts.

Thanks for the quick feed back. My car is getting close. Should be driving it by next weekend. I will be starting it this weekend. I was just checking to see if anyone felt the sub frame bushings were an important upgrade. Guess I'll leave them alone if they are that much of a pain to replace. Not to mention removing the sub frames from the car at this point is not happening.

just front. Did not see any reason to do the rear. just made sure all the mounts were new and figured There was no way in hell I was going to drop the rear subframe, Just to much work. The fronts make more sense considering thats where the suspension, engine, tranny and sway bar all sit.

the chassis i bought already has the engine pulled, the suspension and brakes [replaceing w/ jhm f+r] out and the subframes are easily accessible so im gonna install the aluminum subframes bushings, 034 urethane front linkage, rear spherical linkage, engine mounts and solid axle/drivetrain stabilizers, and coilovers. sp yeah its gonna be stiff, just the way i like my ride for driving

Our aluminum subframe mounts will keep your suspension geometry and alignment specs in check under the most abusive situations. The aluminum bushings will create a noticeable increase in road feel, noise, vibration, etc. This is a small price to pay, in my own personal opinion, for the added benefits of the direct connection created with the rest of the car. But I would label this for the upper level of people who track or really abuse their car (people already running a complete line of track density or similar mounts).

If you are concerned about vibration and not out at the track every weekend or "hardcore", the track density version of the subframe mounts can really breath a lot of new life into your old 100k+ B5 chassis, while still maintaining a real driveable comfort level. You can replace all the suspension arms, motor mounts, etc on your car...but if your connection of the subframes to the main frame remains soft and beatup you will always be applying one band-aid after another.

But yes, I agree and suggest doing this type of modification when you already have the engine pulled in order to facilitate removal of the old bushings. As mentioned above, removal of the old mounts isn't quite as simple as a hammer, but it isn't as bad as I feel some people make it out to be.
