Oil Level Sensor (orange warning light) Question - vag reset req'd??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I've searched high and low and I really cant get a definite answer. I dont post many threads so if its been answered, i'll take the blame

Situation: The yellow Oil Sensor light has lit up on my instrument cluster. Not the Red oil light of death.

What I've done: I purchased a new oil level sensor from the dealership and while doing an oil change, I swapped in the new one. While the sensor was out, I took my flashlight and looked all inside the oil pan. No sludge, no gunk, no junk. Just oil. So this is good. Once the new sensor was in and the car refilled with oil, I took out my digital multimeter and checked to see the resistance through the two sensors (new one in pan and the old one with oil still on it). They read completely different indicating to me that the old one must be bad (assuming the new one is good since it read completely open when it was dry). I also checked the wiring to it including the harness as far up as i could see. I've also checked the fuse (i think its #5) and it is also good.

Problem: The damn light is still on. So, does this mean that the computer needs to be reset? Or does this mean that the problem lies elsewhere? If so, please suggest alternative places to check.

    Thanks in advance!
    Paul

when i replaced mine the warning light went off when when the car was restarted. I did have another CEL at the time so the codes were cleared. But i don't recall any codes from the low oil sensor. take your VCDS and reset the ecu.

Yeah, I had my mechanic scan with OBDII for codes and nothing came up. I've never been able to get my VAG-Com to work with Windows 7 so it appears as though i'm SOL on this one.

But if yours turned off when you restarted the car, my problem must be elsewhere then..

mine just came on 2 days ago... but has not came back on again, since. no CEL, oil level was full, bought the oil level sensor...waiting for it to get here. from reading around your oil pick up screen may be clogged?

I was under the impression that the pick up screen being clogged would trigger the Red oil warning, indicating low pressure or no pressure. Which I guess would happen if the screen is clogged. I just re-downloaded the software so i'll try to see what comes up.

Yellow lights means that your sensor cannot get an accurate reading of the oil level to report to the ECU

Red light means no/low oil pressure - The whole driver's info center will light up red and you'll see this.

What was your fix for this? I have he same yellow oil sensor light too. I just rebuilt my motor, started this week. I replaced the coil pack harness about 6 months ago before the rebuild (the coil pack harness also includes the connector for the oil pan oil sensor). As soon as I started the rebuilt motor I got a couple different warnings, normal while everything levels out, but this yellow oil light remains after a few days of driving. I tripple checked the connector on the oil pan and the connector by the oil filter, all seems fine. I still can't get the yellow oil light to go out. What gives?

    Necro bump!

After replacing the oil and the sensor I got the min oil light as well. Check under car and no leaks present at either pan or sensor. Wires looked ok as well.

Was anyone able to get a fix for this??

Bump... mine is doing the same thing. Check your fuse no.5, mine is blowing everytime my sensor is plugged, i've looked at my wiring and everything is ok. Next thing i'll do is put a new connector. Don't know what else to look at...

I got the engine oil low warning.
    2010 A6 2.0tdi 4f model.
Oil level was low as the car needed an oil change.
Changed filter and oil and level was now good, but warning light would not go out.
Dis display was not showing the bonnet (hood) as being raised.
Checked the bonnet switch and it was disconnected.
Must have been like that since I changed the timing belt.

Thanks for the quick fix guys, and it saved me buying a oil sensor for nothing. :-)
