Locking tab to coilpack broke. What to do?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
The harness that physically connects to the coilpack has a locking tab that somehow broke. Which makes sense due to the high heat and it being plastic.
Is there a way for me to change this or should i even be worried?

THis is on coil pack one.

It will be ok, I broke one of mine when I started to work on my car, not knowing how those damn germans designed their clips and such.

I check it every so often, it has never has never come out of the coil pack on it's own.

There is a few companies that make replacement connectors with a short harness, but why replace it if it holds fine.

just plug it in, but if you want a cheap way to keep it in place anyway, just put a zip tie around the plug and then around the cp itself. that should hold it but it will look terrible haha

haha thanks guys, you really put my worries behind me.
For some reason i always think this car is going to implode every time i mess anything up.

I was waiting for a reply with something along the lines of the harness disconnection and cause a catastrophic misfire.

I know this was from a while ago but you can just buy the plug at audi. I buy plugs all the time for my cars and other peoples cars. The plug for the coil packs is the same as the ones for mk4 golf 2.0 o2 sensor and I had a bunch laying around so I cut them off... then you just push the pins out of the harness after you unlock it and swap them in one by one as you go.

This. You could even DIY the entire harness if you felt so inclined. Mine was shot and I replaced it with the 034 kit (too lazy to fab my own). Looks nice and now I don't worry about it anymore.

its an easy fix if you are really anal, as boy412 said you can DIY the harness. I did a couple years ago, mine got so bad the car wouldnt even start. i bought the connectors from the dealer and wires. now 034 sells the kit which would have been nice to have when i did mine. you just cut back the wires a little bit, crimp the new wires on and plug them into the new connectors.

but i would just leave it, those cheap plastic connectors break all the time.
Thanks for the EFF shack. -Dirty Mike and the Boyz

i know i saw a replacement connector for sale with like 5 inches of each wire on it. you just cut off the old one and splice it in.

I have one like that, I just shoved the tab back in the hole so it holds on the little tooth. I cut about an inch off th end of a zip tie and jammed it in there as well making sure it was toight to keep tension on the little broken tab... good luck haha

Anybody know the difference between ECS wireharness and O34. ECS's is $49 while 034's is $185.

Yeah it's like $29, but if you can get a whole harness for $49, why not spend the extra $20. If u have replace one, you'll probably have to replace another.
