    Using Trailer Hitch on Q7

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just bought a 2007 Q7 Premium 4.2 with 36k on it and it had the trailer hitch option from the dealer. Everything except for the air suspension is on it.

Does anyone know how to hook up the harness or where the harness is I can't seem to find it

My hitch pokes out of the back. I don't quite understand your question.

my hitch pokes out and has the cover. Isn't there a harness for the lights?

My invoice said it was pre-wired for the trailer hitch. What is the wiring for?

Just looked at my trailer hitch, and to the side. It doesn't have the plug. The invoice show's that it is pre-wired, so i'm assuming all I need is hte 7 pin connector housing.

    ANy input?

7 pin connector is about $40 if you get it online ... the audi branded one is way more expensive.

Watch out though; I can't get the full story online and I haven't to tow with ours, but I've read erratic reports that the brake signal may or may not be wired up in the factory harness.

You need the audi trailer hitch accessory, yes it sux but having the towing option does not include the 7 wire adapter plug. if you buy the kit from audi it comes with the wiring plug (you have a black panel cover with 4 phillips head screws in it now it replaces right next to the hitch). There are two options witht he towing package option or without (all US bound Q7's are pre-wired for towing, but without the option they don't have the hitch receiver, nobody gets the wiring plug without buying an accessory...)

I bought it, it works...a little sour that I had to buy it but it works great...

It is supposedly built into the ESP system...I will ask my service rep to demo for me (i haven't used before)...it is not linked to having the air suspension option and off-road mode, and everything i have read says that you simply take your foot off the gas and brake and it will maintain that speed via tration control, but there may be some setting via either the ESP switch itself or the MMI. If someone else knows, please corect me, otherwise I will report back after my appointment later today.

I bought the tow hitch setup from one of the websites owned by a dealer instead of going to the dealer. 155 shipped.

PM me if you want their site.

All the vehicles come pre wired from the factory, I have just completed a OEM hitch installation and it is pretty simple. There are two plugs supplied already in the trunk, off to the rt. hand side of the vehicle, one red with which is square in shape with 7+ pin connections and the other which had a grey foam cover with two wires , right at the back literally on the floor of the spare ,I think they were blue, and a brown which is a ground wire to be wired to the ground block , ( has many brown wires atached to the body of the vehicle). I purchased teh OEM harness and all the plugs are simple to identify.

You will also need to purchase the little black towing module into which the red plug is installed and the black plug also plugs into. THe hitch has a blank off attachment which has to be removed, and a 7 pin plug purchased. This you attach to the hitch and simply plug the harness into it. Voila!

The plate off to the left of the hitch has 4 screws holding it in place. Remove the plate and you'll see an electrical connection. However it needs an adapter which you can get at a dealership.

Usually different cars have different option or method to use the trailer hitch. I suggest it is better to contact the customer care or the service dealer. I hope these people will give you the clear or exact picture of using the hitch.

I just purchased an '07 Q7 4.2 SLine and would also like to add a trailer hitch and harness. The hitch itself is fairly straight forward, however I'm confused as to what I need for the wiring harness. Some have said all that is needed is a harness that plugs into a socket behind the right panel on the bumper fascia, while others claim to have needed a towing module, etc.

Can someone clarify exactly what I need to purchase for the harness itself, or what I should look for that may already be installed?

    Thank you!
