Cool Importing RS4 Avant to the US? Emissions? $$$$

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Im new to this site, and I am looking for an 07-09 Audi RS4 Avant (Wagon). Ive scowered the internet and I cannot find 1 in the US. Ive contacted a few dealerships and theyve told me they were never brought to the states. Ive seen one 07 RS4 online (Blue) that was a left side driver. The rest have been right side drivers for Europe.

Can anyone tell me what it would take to import an RS4 Avant, or where to find one in the states? Thanks for everyones help!

An act of God. Importing any car not sold in the states is a huge hassle. That being said, you're best chance would be to buy one from Canada(if they were sold there) and then transfer it in. Although, I'm not even certain they were ever designed for the North American market due to sales shortages at the time.

Don't even bother trying to get a B7 RS4 avant over here. It's really not worth the headache. Unless you are the head of AoA, who drives an imported C6 RS6 Avant.

If you think you have the cash to import, just purchase a B7 S4 avant and do the body conversion with OEM panels. The interior is identical, besides the CF trim, pedals, gauges, steering, which can also be sourced. You can also get the EU recaros as well. Just a thought.

You might want to talk to the guys at Achtuning, since they're doing a B6 S4 to B7 RS4 conversion. Another great source is OEMplus, which can get you anything Audi.

Oh yeah, might as well supercharge the V8 and don't forget how plagued the DRC suspension is in the RS4. Also if you're really into performance, brakes, tires and exhaust need to be replaced.$.02

From my understanding the primary reason for not importing the RS4 avant was due to the placement of the battery in the rear of the vehicle, which was not the same as the sedan, which would require a complete test for crash and safety regulations, which means give the NHTSA (national highway traffic safety administration) an additional 10 - 20 vehicles to total. For obvious reasons AoA did not go through this.

Paul Walker (Fast and Furious) has one. There may be someone at Rusnak that knows something about how he got it, but I'm not sure.

But as was said above. You need $$$$ and more $$$$ to make it happen...

All B7 RS4 versions (sedan, Avant and cabrio) have the battery in what used to be the spare wheel well - to help even up the weight distribution.

I didn't know he had an RS4 avant...? But I have seen his RS6 avant up at audi MV...

to the OP, everyone else pretty much summed it up. There's a couple here in the states, and unless you've got deep pockets, it's not going to be a reality.

Most of Europe, including Germany, is left hand drive.

Hope you're loaded dude. You can bring one over, but making it street legal is another issue altogether.

Hmmm...maybe I'm wrong on that, maybe it is an RS6...either way, if the guy is posting here asking the question, probably doesn't have enough $$$ to make it happen anyways...but maybe he does, which would be cool.

So if you managed to import an RS6-R, you'd be God basically haha

I see a few RS6 Avants on the M-way most mornings, I always lower my window to hear them rumble past. Awesome cars

Buy one in Europe, pull the motor, import the car, a few months later send the motor, register it as a kit car. That *might* work.

Or I remember something about New Hampshire having very lax car importing laws, so that might be another route.

Just remember, its not hard to get it over here; it's hard to get it registered on the road. I would also call your insurance company and make sure they'll insure it. Additionally, don't forget that you could get it all the way here, and then the feds could deny it, and you either need to crush it, send it back, or have it seized. If you haven't done so yet, there are documents online from the government that go over the car importation laws and stuff. Take some time and read through.
