I'm looking to finish up my interior with some carbon fiber vinyl wrapping and I was wondering what type of glue should I use to glue the MMI trim back together?

No, you can get stuf that dries in about 30 mins and your not pouring it on. You only need a thin layer.

If your using the 3M Di-Noc - you really don't need to use any glue the adhesive sticks well (and you can also remove it if you don't like the look). If you really want it to be permanent you should use 3M primer 94.

if you want primer 94, PM me.
I have purchased one thinking I was going to do 3M di-noc, but I decided against it. So I don't have a need for it.

No I'm not looking to apply adhesive to the 3m di-noc. I'm wondering how would I glue back the MMI portion of the trim (the screen) back together after I pry it apart to properly wrap the silver trim.

I think what david said: epoxy...
It works wonders - I used to it fix some damage on my headlight housings, so far it is holding up nicely

I used little drops of crazy glue. it's worked so far. and cost $1.50. and didn't stink up the interior. and took 30 seconds to try.

this epoxy stuff won't come off like the original glue, will it?
careful with it. i ended up taking my di-noc off the MMI / left-vent shroud; if this epoxy is permanent you risk having a shitty looking mmi-shroud for good.

Well you don't glob it all over. You use a thin layer and you should be able to break it apart if needed. When I tool my rear vent console piece apart I'm pretty sure that wasn't regular glue they had used. It looked like epoxy to me. But what do I know :)

Honestly, for something this minor you may want to just consider crazy clue or some sort of plastic model glue. I think a hardcore epoxy could be overkill.

Epoxy should come off if you wanted it too...

Again, when I fixed my headlight housings with epoxy, I glued one part incorrectly. It cleanly broke off and separated from the glue so I could properly fix it...

if davids right and the original stuff is epoxy then by all means. but IMO that's a little overkill. The crazy glue worked for me. Definitely if we were talking about the headlight housing like NPuter, then def. go with an epoxy. but since we're talking about gluing two pieces of plastic together.....well, choice is yours. epoxy or krazy glue, both seem to give the same results.

what do you have there now? I plasti-dipped it and it looks waay better, esp. with the CF vinyl. I would really recommend it, since we already agreed on the nay-ing of the MMI / vent shroud.

Is the MMI trim hard to remove? If no, I am going to pick up a can of plastidip tomorrow.
I'll see how I like it black... (I kinda like the contrast of the silver now...)

I just removed the silver portion, very easily. took no more than a minute...it's kind of concerning because you're literally snapping the glue. but i just otok a tiny flathead and did small little pry's to get it going.

I haven't figured out what to do there. It's currently stock silver. When I wrapped it in Di-Noc it just didn't look right IMO.

ya man, i just got a tiny flathead and pried it apart, bit by bit, the glue just cracks.
for re-attaching, first i had some adhesive tape i tried, but it started melting in the intense heat and wasn't staying flush. so i krazy glued that junk - still looks nice and flush. best results for $2 and 10 minutes. all the power to those who want to epoxy, but the stock piece looked to be held on by some shitty glue - epoxy seems to be way overboard.

So what, super glue? haha I don't want rattling coming from that piece after I remove it. I bought plasti-dip for my grill, but I just order a gloss black one, so I was thinking this is what I'd do with some of it.

haha sorry man, i guess this didn't show up with "new posts" or whatever.
no rattling at all - but it wasn't even rattling when i had shitty adhesive tape holding it.

krazy glue dries really fast, though (i'm talking seconds here...). do a quick cover, throw it on there, hold it while it finishes drying (literally about a minute) then you may notice some parts that aren't flush. that's where the fine nozzle of the krazy glue helps - just stick it in there (have a paper towel ready, it might seep out) and squeeze a little bit. i owe a couple of ppl pics, so i'll see if i can show you mine. unfortunately shitty bb camera is all i got (girlfriend is the real photographer around here )

no rattling at all - but it wasn't even rattling when i had shitty adhesive tape holding it.

well now i look like an idiot - it's STARTING to peel away. it's still on there really firmly, no rattling at all, but im looking at some corners and the contact isn't firm.

as you can see, nothing serious. you could fit a fingernail in it and i didn't notice it until i started looking for loose spots. but if that ain't your style, either take more time krazy-gluing or go with something more permanent

When you take off this MMI and left vent pieces, why do you need to use glue? I tried unsnapping them and it seemed to me like they were just snapped in, no glue. Where did you guys need to use glue after taking this off?

They're referring to the black MMI indentation panel that is by default fused to the gray dash surround trim. I just masked this part off rather than separated them, saved myself the trouble of worrying about breaking it. The downside was that when taking off my masking, I peeled off a bit more than I should have. Still looks fine, but could use re-done at some point.

ya belze, you can pry the silver part off so it's JUST the silver portion. if you take off the central MMI cluster, you get both the black and silver pieces. I only wanted to work on the silver, and rather than masking it off, i just pried it apart. no damage was done to the piece because the glue is very brittle and is the first thing to go (rather than snapping some of the plastic)
