DIY - Snow Performance Stage 2 Install

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This is my DIY Methanol Injection Kit Install...

Snow Performance Stage 2 with the VC 25 MAF/Boost Controller
Dual Nozzle Kit with 225 ML Nozzles

I searched many forums and could not find any specific write ups with pictures to get an idea of how and where to install the kit. I am in no way an expert installer, tuner, yada yada, just someone who wants a better perfoming car where I can say that "I did this myself."

I chose the empty spot by the power steering reservoir because it would be easiest to access it for maitainance. I also bent the mounting bracket on the pump into a slight "U" shape so that it fits snug.

I decided to use the windshield washer reservoir but never ordered the kit. What I did do was remove the headlight washer pump. There is a rubber bushing that sits in there.

FYI-Removing the driver side headlight makes it easier to access the bottom of the washer reservoir

I bought a Hose Barb Adapter (3/8x3/8) and a Pipe Bushing (3/8x1/8) at Home Depot as well as 1/4in poly urethane hose that they sell.

Everything assembled should look like this.

Push the fitting back into the reservoir and then run the tubing up to the pump.

Here is another shot of the tubing from reservoir to pump and pump to Thottle Body Hose

I mounted the Nozzle adapter about 4 in from the throttle body

Next I decided to mount the controller in front of the cabin air filter housing. I felt it was easy access for quick adjustments

I then ran the wires through a rubber grommet in the fire wall. I also ran the power wire for the controller through the ECU box and under the dash (following the hose for my boost gauge)

For the pump activiation light, I mounted the LED on the dash board. The grey trim pops off easily and I drilled a hole big enough for the light. I used the ground for from my boost gauge and ran for the positive wire, tapped into the pump wire

I wired everything up according to the directions and then was good to go. Below are a few more pics. Hope this helps

Thanks for bearing with me :)

only 1 nozzle? Also why did you choose to put the nozzle there versus behind the throttle boddy in a spacer place? Also which nozzle did you use?

    EBG,

I chose that spot because I didn't buy the throttle body spacer. There are so many threads about doing it/not doing it that way so I decided to stick with what the directions said, for now anyway. I will pit the second nozzle in when I get the anti siphon kit. The nozzles that came with the kit were 225ml. I talked to Clint from RAI and decided to stick with those for now. With the one in I haven't had any issues with the car bogging down etc. The pump is set to start spraying between 6&7 psi with full spray around 13 psi. The pump is the 220 psi one. My max boost is around 25 psi and drops down to about 15 psi.

How quickly does it consume the meth/water? None below 6-7psi, then it's spraying max pressure over 13psi... I'm just curious how often you have to fill up the tank. Boost Juice is pretty expensive.

Nice writeup, I like the fittings for getting it to fit into the washer reservoir.

    Thanks Jon,

Well since Saturday afternoon I've gone through a bottle and a half of wahser fluid, then I mixed three bottles of heet with distilled water and went through that. Monday I was low and bought 12 bottled of heet and mixed that with a gallon of water which gave me two gallons of what I believed to be a 50/50 mix. I'm still full as of now. Oh I added some washer fluid because the sensor was reading low fluid with the mix although it was full. I ran through alot because I was adjusting the timing with my sps3. Once I get everything tuned right i should be using less.

I think that if you wanna run a true 50/50 mix it's probably cheaper to get the 4 gals of boost juice unless you wanna use washer fluid. The car definately runs better and pulls harder :)

Again great write up - anything else on the the electrical side of ur installation? Most notably:

    Where did u connect to?
What components did u use to hook up the wires?
Does all the above information/parts/fuses come with the kit?

    Thanks

I used the connectors that came with the kit. The ground for the controller is right to the battery and the ground for the pump is at a grounding nut right at the middle of the firewall. As far
as the positive connection I bought those fuse taps (the all metal ones for blade fuses which give
you an extra spade on top on the fuse) and used the spot for I believe the headlight washer pump (I'll check later). I ran wire from the pos side of
the led and used those blue wire splices - shaped like {]- and spliced into the pump/controller positive wire. I tried to make the connections as simple as possible. Side note... I did buy a roll
of 14 Gauge wire to run the wire from engine compartment to the fuse block and led light. The kit comes with the necessary connectors but I wanted to make sure I had enough stuff to work with. If anyone has ever wired a car radio, etc, you can do this.

Side note 2- I was going to try and wire the controller to the mad unit but again, no
pics on any forums showing the exact wire to
tap. So I stuck with using it through the boost method.

Wow that seems like a lot... so you have to refill the washer tank once per week or so?

I think my major reluctance is the loss of the washer fluid and the constant refills. I was also considering removing my stock airbox and building a custom stainless steel tank for that area.

It seems like a lot but but remember I'm also adjusting the boost and timing so I've been doin a lot of third and fourth gear pulls. Plus the car has a slight roar at wot which I like to hear :)

I think once I get everything tuned the way I want I should be using less. I don't know what pump/nozzle/settings/driving style you have so that may make a difference too

I should be able to send you some install pics from my setup this weekend. Little different than POPO's. The bungs are getting welded right now for the nozzles, so that delayed the install a today. But tommarow the controller will be installed and the baseline map programed.

So after about a week of running my snow meth kit I must say that I am happy with the performance. The downside for me was that I was running through too much fluid oth the 225 ml too fast. I called Snow Performance yesterday and spoke with their technical rep regarding increasing the pressure of the pump. As I stated in the first post I have the 220psi pump running a 225 ml nozzle.

I had searched the net and found out that the pump pressure could be increased. So in talking with the tech rep, he told me that there was a small allen screw (5.5 mm Allen wrench) at the top of the pump that's used for adjusting the pressure. He told me that 2 and 1/2 turns clockwise would give me the same affect as if I was running a 175 ml nozzle. So I made the adjustment and started driving to test it out. I figured out that the adjustment was toouch because I was leaking fluid from the pump
housing and cause caused a small slit in the hose going to the throttle body hose (hence buying the 25ft poly hose). So I removed the nozzle and added a new piece of hose to test and adjust the spray pattern. I also removed the hose from the washer reservoir and ran a piece from the pump to a bucket of water. I then turned the screw back to where it was and started adjusting the pressure again. I adjusted the screw clockwise to the point where water was leaking out ofthe top part of the housing and then turned it back about 1/4 counter clockwise till there was nothing leaking out. Where it was set now gave me a finer spray pattern then what it was originally. After the adjustment I topped off with washer fluid and drove about 20 miles, hitting the start and full settings for the the controller to spray. At this point I still have washer fluid in the top half of the reservoir which leads me to believe that I got the pump dialed in just right for me.

I will be getting a 175 ml nozzle to replace the 225 and then add the 225 ml post intercooler. Once I swap, add, and adjust, I'll comment again

popo i was going to say that the 225ml nozzle was too big for the K03. IIRC I am using a 189ml in my lower intercooler pipe (welded a bung into the pipe) and a 126ml in the intake manifold just after the throttle body.

If you can adjust it to also spray less with lower duty cycle on the injectors that would also be benficial. So when the engine load is say at 70% and you are at 9psi, maybe only spraying at 33% vs 50% like you are now. I am not sure if you tapped into the MAF, MAP or injectors or if your controller allows you to program that part in.

Nice writeup man. Glad to see that it's working out for you. But you're on REVO Stage 2 and you spike boost to 25 and then it only holds 15? Or are you just talking about driving around town?

When I ordered the kit, I didnt realize that I should have specified that I wanted the 175ml nozzle. No biggie since I have another one on the way. I have the controller set to activate through boost pressure. I wanted to try using the MAF signal but again, I could not find any pictures or specific instructions on locating the correct MAF wire to tap for the signal to the controller. Any suggestions would greatly be apprecitated.

I talked to the shop where I got the tune and inquired about the significant drop. It was explained to me that because I have such a large intercooler and a small turbo, the pressure is going to drop like that. There is nothing I can do until I get a bigger turbo or smaller intercooler (NOT!)

On another note, I noticed that the new piece of tubing I replaced has a slit in it. I think the pressure is too high for the tubing so i swapped it out for a piece of the tubing that came with the kit. I'll see how that holds up.

Well atleast you have a smaller nozzle coming. As for the signal for the MAF i will see what kind of pictures i can round up for you this week.

You shouldn't be seeing more than 1 psi pressure drop accross the racetec core, so i think your shop might just be trying to brush you off.

as for the splitting of the tubing it happens. when they started installing my kit they threw the supplied line in the trash. we purchased airline hose rated for 500+psi at freezing temps so that i could eliminate this particular problem. all the plastic fittings were also replaced with treated brass fitting.

your shop was just blowing hot air (do yall see what I did there?? lol) Thats just the tiny k03. Your boost setting is probably pretty aggressive and requesting so much as to jsut let the turbo push as much as it can.

Question about the meth nozzle size, I thought you were supposed to use 20% of overall fueling? So 386x.2=77.2 then 772.x4=308.8

boost is a big part of it as well. Also, with our returnless fuel systems, that might throw everything off

hmm, okay. Im still learning all this F.I. stuff. I think I will need some sort of meth injection on my car in this Texas heat, even with the k03 lol

Excellent thread here. POPO, you just took a large amount of mystery out of this install. Like you mentioned, there's been few threads w/the 'right' pics and now it's clear as day. And certainly something I could knock out.

While your use of the barb adapter to tap the washer reservoir is simplistic brilliance, I wonder if there is an alt means of tapping the reservoir in order to retain windshield spraying ability. I need it. Maybe just drill a 2nd hole in the reservoir and use the same technique.

Also, I'm assuming you adjusted the boost / timing for Revo w/the SPS unit to make things run correctly... what settings did you wind up at and octane fuel are you using over there in your fine Garden State?

Again, stellar write up. Thank you.
