    Audi Sunroof or Moonroof?

    Hi,

I just bought a 2003 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro (wonderful, by the way). It has a sunroof, however, I can't manage to find the button that opens it. Does it even open? I forgot to ask the salesperson, but I'd assume it's a sunroof.

    I'd appreciate the help.

Lol, !! Congrats and welcome to the B6 club. Anyway, did your car come with a manual?? Look for it under the steering wheel. Now, to answer your question you open and close the sunroof by turning the dial located between the map lights. If you already tried that you have an issue with the roof. And just an FYI for you, the difference between sun and moon roofs is simply that moonroofs are glass and sunroofs are metal, good luck with the car....

Thank you very much! It's late outside so I'll try this first thing tomorrow! And about the manual... I was looking all over for that darn thing! The seller just wrote me an e-mail specifying where it was.

I couldn't of asked for a better deal. The car looks like brand new and I've already gotten lots of compliments and stares from people passing by.

    Thanks for your help!

They differ only by name the way those terms are used today.

I always figured sunroof were the ones that when open are above the roof. Usually found on cheaper cars like cobalts and such and that moonroofs went into the roof like our cars.

I thought a sunroof actually opens and a moonroof is just a piece of glass but does not open.

    And it's like this:

-Sunroof: No glass, essentially a piece of the roof that tilts and slides. Jaguars only had this option in the old days.

-Moonroof: Piece of glass that replaces portion of roof that tilts and slides and has a sliding cover.

-Panorama Roof: Large percentage of glass is replaced with laminated 2" thick glass that has a horizontal support beam in the center. The front cabin portion tilts and slides and the rear is solid. It has a pair of sunshades that can be closed/retracted usually electronically. Most common option today.
