Just wondering what are you guys using for tire shine? It seems like everything I have used, the product splashes and gets all over my rims and car regardless if I let it sit for a day after application or drive it in an hour.

Apply your tire coating to a rag then wipe it on. You wont have all the excess that way.

They also sell some tire shine applicator pads that are skinny enough for low profile tires. They have them at autozone.

Adam's V.R.T. or Optimum Opti Bond. These two are really great products at preventing the dreaded SLING.

    I agree!

It's a nice thick paste that when applied with an applicator provides a very even finish. I find it's the longest lasting tire dressing that I've been able to find and doesn't leave my tires glossy looking.

Highly recommend you give this product a try. I find I only have to apply it once every 4 washes.

Just used VRT for the first time and have had no sling and it has stayed on thru a rain. The only down side which is minor in my opinion is it is low shine IMO. Meguires has more shine but also slings if not wiped properly. So you have to trade off I guess.

Another vote for Adam's VRT. It's not supposed to look excessively shiny, and I like that about it. Word on the street is that a new formula of VRT is nearing release that withstands water much better, meaning it will last much longer during rainy days. I saw a video comparing the old formula to the new; it's posted somewhere in the Detailing Forum. Amazing water resistance for a product that's water-based.

Another vote for Adam's VRT. I like the fact that it is low-gloss. I don't like the really shiny tire look. Very unnatural.

I also use Adam's applicator. Works really well.

I really like 303 Aerospace protectant. It contains no silicon, which many other tire shines do; overtime this can discolor and breakdown rubber. 303 won't provide super shine, instead it's almost more matte. I also use it on all the rubber and plastic inside & outside of the car for its UV protection.

I have also found that 303 is the best solution since I like a matte finish. I use it in the interior as well. The great things about 303 on tires are that it applies evenly with an applicator and it does not attract dust like the "shine" products.

If you want to go OTC, I would buy the best Meguiar's you can find and apply in sparingly with an applicator. Never spray anything directly from the can unless you want it all over the rims and body panels...

Speaking of which, have you been able to keep your tire applicator(s) clean at all? I'm having the toughest time... gonna try Dawn Power Dissolver which a lot of ppl use to clean DA pads to see if it takes care of the dirt.

Should really post this in the detailing forums for a larger response.

However, Adam's VRT has a new formula coming - one that is truly water resistant. I would wait for that if you can.

For applicators, I use foam pads, then seal it in a baggie until later. Technically it shouldn't be dirty, just covered with product. If it's dirty when you apply it, need to hit the tires with a better scrub like CG Diablo, P21S wash or Flash Brown Royal.

Currently I use Megs Gold Endurance - one application (two thin coats) makes water bead for over a month and grime/road dust just wipes right off. It keeps its matte shine for about 2-3 weeks before it starts to look a little less shiny, but water repellent is still there when I wash it.

i use black magic titanium tire wet gel. this stuff works great. only bad part is if you dont let it sit until it completely dries i will sling on your thing (lol). u have to let it sit for at least 2 hrs, but after that looks nice and wet ;) and lasts like 2-3 weeks (depending on ur driving).

I haven't noticed that the applicator gets dirty, other than absorbing some of the VRT - which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Just bought Adams VRT, the new water resistant one after seeing this thread....I must say this stuff works well! I stopped using tire shine a while ago because it would splash everywhere, but not this. I applied it then drove to work and there was nothing on my doors or rims. Great product!

Extreme Black by Wheel Wax hands down the best I have ever personally used. You can apply one light coat for a lower sheen or apply a second coat for more shine.

Does not contain silicone to promote dry rot. Does not attract dirt and does not sling. Smells like Pina Colada too

It is sold over the counter at some places but I have been buying mine from autogeek.net

I cut a cardboard with half of rim size (half moon shape), tape / attach another small piece of cardboard to it as holding point. Cover the half rim, spray the tire shine, then do the other half same.

I recommend a small, moistened, household utility sponge. Apply your dressing to the sponge then wipe carefully onto the sidewall avoiding contact with your rims.

I don't like shiny tires so I use scrubbing bubbles (recommend by Michelin) to clean them and have the natural rubber look.

Adams APC will give the same result plus it has many other uses. Best APC everrrrr. Give it a try sometime.

Agreed. I just got some Wolfgang tire dressing and its pretty good but Endurance is as or more durable, cheaper and easier to apply. Let it sit for a little while and there is zero sling.

Problem is, at Target scrubbing bubbles is like $3 for two cans, and it works great. Plus Michelin said use it. Although I currently have the 303 for my window rubber and stuff.

I may have to try it someday though.

My Continental DWS tires don't hold shine at all, so I don't even worry about tire dressing any more. Gonna give the scrubbing bubbles a try though...

If the tires have the brownish color on them it may take a few goes at it. But what I do is when tire is dry,
-spay it let it do it's thing
    -then rinse
-wipe tire off a just a bit not detail
-Spray again wait for white bubbles to go away/pop
-Spray again and scrub with brush then rinse

That's if it's the first go around then I do it maybe every other week or so to keep it fresh.
