    B6 S4 suggested maintenance

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello. First post here. I pick up my first Audi this Friday! It is a 2004 S4 with approx. 35,000 miles. I will post pictures when I take delivery.

    Questions:
    1. Is there an online source for the suggested maintenance for the car? I have searched and found a docement which specifies A4 maintenance, but I am wondering if there is an S4 specific document?
    2. Is the factory suggested maintenance pretty comprehensive? I've had a few BMWs, and that community likes to suggest using what they call "old school maintenance" which is over-and-above what the factory suggests. Gratned, the factory suggestions are not much. SO...is the Audi suggested factory maintenance adequate, or should I begin to maintain my S4 by a higher standard?

    Many Thanks.

Thanks for the link. This looks exactly like the factory suggestions I found elsewhere, thanks for the confirmaton.

This does not seems to dictate a change interval for transmission and differential fluid...at what mileage should I change those?

Audi considers these fluids to be a lifetime fill. Now, the joke in the shop is, lifetime of the warranty. My personal vehicles I would change these fluids around the 75,000 mile maintenance.

[Edit] and a heads up... the tranny fluid is something in the ballpark of $200 (not including labor)[/Edit]

IMO, the oil should be changed at least every 5000 miles. Always with synthetic and an OEM filter. I use LubroMoly 5-40 on my 3.0 and I think that that is also the most popular oil among the s4 guys too

You should match the factory maintenance intervals or do them sooner. I think the factory intervals are fine on everything except oil ** 10k is a bit extreme. Sure, the synthetic won't break down, but it will get awfully dirty over that time span. I'd trim it down to 5000ish.

The owner's manual shows the exact schedule.

    Here's mine:

    Oil: 5,000
    Transmission: yearly
    Differential: 15,000
    Tire rotation: 5,000

Bear in mind that my car only sees about 6-7k a year and I race it almost every other weekend during the warm months.

What you do is more related to manual or automatic. Also you need to look over the car and see the kinda of life its had. That usually will tell you more or less when to do something much sooner or later. The service intervals are based off normal driving. If the car was driven hard your going to need to change things much sooner
If you don't have haters, then you're not kicking enough ass.
