25mm vs 45mm Offset? School me please!

I currently have 17" wheels that have a 25mm offset. I'm looking at a pair of 17" Audi wheels with a 45mm offset. Can someone school me what the difference is and if the 45mm offset would work on my allroad? What if I get 18's what offset should I look for?

    Thanks!

the 45mm set will be tucked under the car by 20mm more. They might squeeze under and not rub the suspension, but they will leave a large gap from the tires edge to the fender lip. check the rim fitments on tire rack.

Any chance you would know what the max offset I could go with without getting spacers and not rubbing the suspension. I'll check out tirerack again.

From what I see in tireracks wheels. Best bet is 20mm spacers front and rear. the dra ones would be best from H&R.

    LOU,

I think your right. I guess 20mm spacers with extended lug nuts will be the way to go. Found this site that was pretty helpful too.

H&R DRA spacers have the advantage of not requiring longer bolts :)

We use ET18 to ET24 for 18x8 and 18x8.5 for reference

I agree with Doc. The 40+ offset potentially wont work out well. Stick with 15-25. Hard vehicle to shop for. We have this one http://drivelinecustoms.com/wheels.aspx?ID=4910

Keep in mind that wheel width plays a huge factor when figuring out offset. For instance, if your stock rims are 7.5" ET25, an ET 45 will sit in 20mm more on another 7.5" rim. If the ET45 is on a 8.5" rim, it will only sit in about 7mm more. On an Allroad, I would skip the ET45 and look for a ET25 or less.
