When you mix it the 2 different coolants react and turn to mud/sludge and you'll have some big issues. If you're in a pinch and need to top it off (like a cup or 2) I would just ad plain water.

again, glad i didn't do it.

thanks for all the help everyone.

guess i'll go to napa in the morning - that pentosin g12 is legit, right?

A new coolant, G 012 A8D A1 is being used in production as follows:
    • German production: from 07.96
    • Mexican production: running change scheduled for 01.97
    Coolant G 012 A8D A1 is red in color.
This newly developed product permits a cooling system fill that lasts the service life of the engine
and was designed with all-aluminum engines in mind.
    Advantages:
    • Improved corrosion protection
    • Improved thermal stability
    • Improved heat transfer/control
    • Improved hard water tolerance
    • Improved environmental protection
    CAUTION!
G 012 A8D A1 must NEVER be mixed with ANY other coolant. Engine damage will
    result !

Contamination of G 012 A8D A1 with other colored coolants is identifyable by discoloration
(brown , purple etc.). This mixture causes a foamy deposit to appear in the expansion
tank/radiator. This mixture is to be drained immediately and the cooling system flushed as
    described on next page.

It shouldn't do any damage but it will turn into a very nice dog shit brown color. Mix with anything coolants are fine with the same colors and even then I don't think they work the same. Coolants are specifically designed for each car. You most likely won't get the same cooling as the OEM coolant. Is your Audi worth it?

g12 only man. add a cup or 2 of water for now, and head down to the dealer or your local napa and pick up a bottle of g12 to keep in the car. one liter of g12 can be diluted 2:1 with water, netting you 3 liters of coolant.

dont mix, will cause headaches in the future.

Actually we repair many Audi's a year from people mixing the coolant. The brown junk turns into sludge. The first problem you'll notice is no heat from a clogged heater core. If you're lucky you catch it while the heater core can still be back flushed with solvent and saved.

Things that say for every make and model, are for every make and model, but Audi.

I'm not trying to argue but is that with the mix with anything coolants? I've seen it with 2 different coolants mixed. We had 2 colors mixed and it was still the proper consistancy but maybe we changed in before it got worse? Like I said I'm not trying to question you I'm just trying to get some knowledge.

You cannot mix the Prestone 'mix with any coolant' with G12 (factory coolant). Audi released a TSB stating it is very important that no other coolant is mixed into the G12. The G12 is a very special lifetime coolant designed to protect and help heat transfer with the metals used in Audi engines.

Mixing causes a reaction and the coolant turns into a highly caustic sludge. I wouldn't even say it was expensive considering it's benefits
