In the glove box next to the valet button is an owners manual. LOL, yeah, it limits the acceleration and top speed, as well as the gear selection if your car is TIP. Basically so 18 year old punk valets don't drive your car like the garage owner in Ferris Buellers Day Off.

As for the valet mode, I wonder which is better- Audi capping speed or APR "valet mode" capping RPMs (@1500 I believe)?

Ok - I read the manual - it only says the valet button locks the trunk... said nothing about speed, etc...
I tested it out, and it definitely does not limit rpm's

The steps my salesman told me were these:

    1. Hit valet button
    2. Close and lock glove box
    3. Turn in the valet key only to the valet attendant.

Now they only are able to open the car doors and turn the car on, anything in the glove box or trunk will be out of reach and protected from anyone.

And it is only the two Remote Keys that can be used to open the glove box again - isn't that correct??

When the valet key has been activated, then it is the spare key that the kids are using, and therfore they are locked out of the glove box and trunk.

Not sure what your asking, but the valet key is just the module with the unlock/lock buttons on it. The rest (the key itself and keychain) is yours to keep with you. And like smurfs mentioned up top there, dont forget to lock the rear seats with the actual key itself also. This will keep everything you need secure to be secure and only you can get to it.

Then I can't see what special feature there is with the valet button, because if you have a lock on the glove box, and you in MMI can lock the trunk with the central locking, then you get the same - what else do you get with the valet button??

mine has locking boot lid in the menu:
I'm not sure why its not showing on davids - maybe he has to scroll down a page to see it since he added an extra option...

but the only thing that option does is control whether the trunk is unlocked when pressing the unlock key - However, the key also has the trunk unlock button.
So you can always open the trunk with using the trunk unlock button or just the plain old open trunk switch inside the car...

the valet button disables both of these - that way, there is no way for the valet person to get into the trunk...

The valet button will prevent the interior trunk button from unlocking.

Who is the valet person - the driver or the passenger??

If it is the driver, what should then prevent him/her from unlocking the glove box and/or the back seats using the key inside the remote, and eg. switch off the valet button??

There has to be some logic in the way it is meant to be used.

    Sorry I don't get it

lol - Ok. I will explain it in full...

Here in NA (not sure about other countries) we have something called valet. It is kinda like a car parking service - i.e. there may be a valet in front of a restaurant - you just drive up, and someone takes your car to be parked (you pay them obviously).

Since someone else takes possession of your car, there is the risk of property getting stolen. So when you do use valet, you throw all your valuables in the trunk.
You then hit the "Valet" button in the glove box. This prevents the trunk from opening (From unlock button, from trunk unlock button, from trunk handle, from interior trunk switch)
You then remove the physical key from your key fob. Use the physical key to lock the glove box (preventing access to the Valet button) and the rear seat pull downs.

You then give the valet the key fob (without the physical key inside) and you keep the physical key.

This prevents the valet from accessing your trunk while they have your car...

This is kind of an interesting thread....since I was always wondering why those guys with the red coats out front of restaurants always had such sweet rides! I thought it was a glee club of some sort. j/k of course....

I have never noticed a button in my glove box, but when I picked up my car, during my orientation they showed me the temp fob (plastic hollow key) that was mounted on the inside of the GB. They also mentioned the slim manual key that fits inside the temp fob which they said to keep in my walet. When using the valet, you take the slim key out of your walet and insert it in the fob. You give that to the valet to allow them to open the doors (with the slim key) and use the fob as you would your normal fob. That's what they told me......but, wait....how would that prevent access to the trunk or limit the speed. This button I will have to look for since that makes so much sense. I'll likely see if I can find my owners manual in there too.... heh heh.

Does everyone have these plastic temp fobs moutned to the inside of the GB with the slim plastic manual key?

lol - I will explain once again

the temp plastic fob in the glove box is something unrelated to valet...

for valet - you take the physical key out of your real fob, use that to lock everything up, and then give the valet your real empty fob...

now, with the plastic fob and plastic physical key.
Say you loose your key (Real fob with physical key inside)

You use the plastic physical key (that you should keep in your wallet) to unlock the doors, then pull the fake/plastic fob out of the glove box, slide the plastic physical key into it, and then start the car...
the car will not start unless the plastic physical key is inside the temporary fob...

    hope this makes sense

    So, to recap:

Valet button inside the glove box disables the trunk button on the remote as well as the trunk button on the drivers side door. In order to lock the trunk, you pop out the black fob from the hard key, turn the two keyholes above the back seats with the metal key, and then you lock the gloveboxwith the metal key and just give the valet the black fob to lock/unlock/drive the car. You retain the metal key.

The black 'emergency' plastic key goes only with the black 'emergency' plastic fob. My US car has a little clip holder in the glove box for the 'emergency' fob. This is primarily used if you happen to lock your keys in the car or they get separated from you - you're advised to keep the black plastic key separate (like in your wallet). You would have to use the plastic key to unlock the drivers door manually, then get into the glovebox, get the fob, snap the two together, and then you can drive the car.

    You got it!
I couldn't have said it better myself...

What I don't get though, is that my sales person showed me all this during delivery...
