How would a bad IAT sensor effect how the car runs?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
CEL came on I VAG the car and it reports 16497 - Intake Air Temp. Sensor (G42): Signal too High

I check block 118 and the IAT is reported to be -48*C which could be possible if I was in the Arctic.

So I'm waiting for the engine bay to cool down so I can pull out the IAT sensor, but if it is giving weird readings like this does anyone know how it effects how the car runs?

Reason I ask is the car is running a bit lean and I am trying to figure out what is wrong and if this IAT sensor is the issue.

i would think it would cause it to run rich if it sees colder denser air it would add fuel to compensate maybe?

colder temp = richer fuel. So I doubt a -48c temp from this sensor will cause to you run leaner. If anything it would make you run richer, as it tells the ecu you got frosty air in your intake. :)

The IAT is the sensor right before your throttle body on the intercooler piping.

    That's what I thought too.

I disconnect that one and I get a bunch of boost errors when I do a VAG scan so wouldn't that be the MAP sensor?

Oh shit sorry Winston. That IS the MAP sensor.

The IAT is just behind the throttle body on the intake mani. I always get the two mixed up
