    Need help removing Exhaust Manifold

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, I found where my exhaust leak was...one of the bolts that holds the manifold to the turbo (the hardest one to get to, closest to the engine) was almost all the way out. I tightened it back down as best as I could but it still leaks, pretty noticeably too. I don't care too much at the moment, because I have a new ATP manifold + gaskets and hardware on the way. The issue I'm having is that stupid oil line heat shield is blocking access to everything. Is there a way to get that out with out disconnecting the oil line? When I go in to do the swap, it would be much less of a hassle to get the manifold out without that shield in there. And then for future reference, should I put on some sort of lock washer to keep the bolt from undoing itself?

Thanks for any information or advice.

the heat shield does come off. i believe its 3 10mm bolts and you need to also take off the pankcake valve hose. The oil feed line can stay in.

What? How? That's what I tried to do from the start....the stupid thing would not come out, very frustrating. I eventually just moved it around to get to the loose bolt. How long did it take for you to do the install if you dont mind me asking? I'm starting to worry about the bottom row of nuts to pull off. Also, there's one nut/bolt on the top row that snapped off....that'll be fun to get out. I can't wait to get this fixed, I think that's what's caused my car to run rough in the first place.

Ps... We're talking about the same heat shield right? There's two parts to it? The first one unscrews with 3 screws/bolts and then the second piece that's secured by the oil feed line mounts, which are two 6 or 8mm bolts..i think that's what size they were. It's the back piece that I'm having trouble getting out...i'll try disconnecting the pancake hose next time, doesn't look like it'll come out at all without doing that.

well, it is the atp hf that is used with my gtrs, my brother in law unthreaded the 3 bolt for the ko3, then i tolk the old mani down... it was fairly quick, now the new mani cause it is thicker took forever to get on, i told him to mount the turbo first and he said we didn't need to, needles to say we needed to put that back bolt in before we mounted the man i, cause i had to take it down and put it back on

i would say mounting the atp mani took 20 minutes or so... i didn't use a crows foot, i tried a bent wrench, but it was easier and quicker to just multiple turn a regular one, and i was in no hurry... i had 4 weeks to put it on, got it done in a day
