My key fob switchblade got kneed on while replacing my seats to heated ones and it never closed/opened right. I came across this link and showed me how to disassemble that part. I used a vw key to replace the broken part and now its good as new.

So I can buy something like the item in the link and easily transfer all my stuff to the new key. Would I have to do any programming thereafter?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FLIP-...item3ef8607d73

Btw, is that something you guys would recommend or is there a better one.

You "might" need to program the key again since the chip will be different. Unless you transfer the immobilizer chip as well (thats what I did).

yeah. the shells only come with the shell and the flip key. you would install your immobilizer chip, key and electronics. no reprogramming needed. mine still looks new after replacing the shell.

B5 A4's don't have immobilizers...................... why do people keep spreading mis information like this (not referring to the OP). Unless you have the little yellow key light on in your dash you don't have one. Only Euro B5 A4's had them.

so, from all i've researched (weeding through lots of misinformation), i think that's right: no NA B5 A4's have immobilizers. i just purchased a B5 avant, and got a replacement key fob shell on ebay. today, while swapping PCB/key from old fob to new shell, i noticed that my old shell has an immobilizer RFID chip/capsule installed (looks just like the one shown here, found in a mk5 Jetta key). i couldn't remove the capsule, and decided to leave it, and just swap everything over into the new fob shell. car starts and drives fine. so while there was an immobilizer RFID in my original key fob, there's no receiver in the car to read it i.e. immobilizer is not installed.

I took my key fob apart to swap the electronics out into a new case that I got off eBay. However I have no idea how to get the circuit board out of the old key fob. I see there are 2 brass like caps that hold the circuit board down but how do I remove it?

Bumping this up. I cant figure out how to take the electonics out the stock key. it has 2 brass nubs on the sides and i've tried a bunch of different ways to get them off to remove the pcb board.

    any help?

pull the key in to its 2 halves. remove the screw under the emblem. pull other 2 halves apart. the pcb is held in with 2 plastic tabs are that melted to hold it in place.

er, nevermind. i just read your post above mine. her key didnt have any brass nubs.
    contact via email please.

I just went through this for the first time. I too pulled apart my key and saw the two brass pins holding the pcb in place. This is what I did and it worked great. Take a deep breath, first I used an angled tool (a small allen wrench would work) to pry up the pcb near the brass pin. On mine, there were two, on one side I could pry up the pcb board, the other I couldn't, anyway, pry up the side that you can get to just enough to loosen the pin. I then took a pair of shear-cutters / pliers http://www.practicaltool.com/electro...tter-17od.html and was able to grab underneath the pin and get it out. For the other side I had to actually cut away at the plastic of the holder to get underneath to pry and to position the cutter under the pin. After I got both pins out, the board came out and into the new shell. I put the pins back in the new shell as best I could and sealed it all back up. Works like a charm, though I did have to re-sync the key with the car, I guess the battery was out too long. With mine all I had to do was press one of the buttons, then use the key to lock or unlock the car.

The only thing I couldn't do was my new shell came with a blank switchblade key, I was going to take out the blank and put in my key but I could not for the life of me get the original apart. I took out the screw but it would not come apart. If anyone knows how to get that apart I'd be appreciative! Hope this helps!

I'm pretty sure there's a tiny PIN which locks the Cut Blade into the swivel mechanism. You need a super small pick to tap it out (like they use for Watch links)..Hope that's what you meant.

I know this is an old thread but it is a current problem for me...

Did anyone else figure out another way to do this? I can't pry up the board.
    Any better explanations? thanks

Grab the pin with a plier with good teeth and pull straight out as you twist the pin in it's socket. Mine came right out. I'm a big guy so keep trying.
