Strange crystal like film forming on the inside of windows / windshield

In the past few months something strange started happening to my wife's 1997 Audi A4 2.8. A crystal like film started developing on the inside of the windows. When it's scrubbed off it's almost like the clear glitter stuff, but very thin. The best way we could describe it is a sugar coat. I thought it had something to do with the window tint, until it started forming on inside the windshield, which isn't tinted (starting from the bottom going up). Could this be a something to do with fluid evaporating in the heater? We were having some probelms with the car overheating the past 6 months and it turned out the thermostat was bad. The thermostat was replaced, but there's still a small coolant leak that I can't find the origin of. Her asthma has been really bad recently and I worry that something dangerous may be in the air. Does anybody have any ideas what this film might be?

Yeah that coolant evaporating through your vents. Definitely not good
