So here the low down need some help..

Car had a hard time starting up once it turned over esp light is on.

could use some help on why its still on.

Update *** I turned off the car to come post on the fourms, I go back out five minutes later and the car won't start. I jump start the car, esp light stays on for a bit then goes away. Make the drive home, 25min drive, turn off the car for three minutes, car won't start, esp light stays on, jump start the car, esp light on for a bit then goes away. I must have gotten jinxed for reading the threads about lightweight batteries

    that was last nite

Found out today that my radio is staying on and draining my battery. I pulled the fuse to the radio and put the battery on a charger. Anyone have any info on why it might be staying on? Appreciate the help.

I think they all do that. Radio stay active for 30-60 sec after the car is off. I've noticed it with my car as well. The navigation display color changes slightly after a minute. Had my battery replaced a month ago and its $180.

i had this problem not that long ago. The radio was sending signals to the amp to keep running, which killed my battery very quickly no matter what. After the radio's fuse was taken out the problem went away. It is known as a Paracitic draw of the battery. My suggestion is to buy a new head unit either aftermarket or OEM and your problem will go away. I dont know which HU your car has in it right now, but you can get a symphony II from ecs tuning for 39.95 and it fits all s4's 2002-2005 hope this helps http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B6_A4-...ereo/ES435773/

It sounds like you have a short somewhere. I had this exact problem with a MKIV Jetta and it wound up being an internal short in the head unit, but it could also be the amp, etc...

I don't have a vag com. The radio can be turned on with the key removed and door open, is anyone else able to do this by holding down the on button?

    That's normal, intended operation.

FYI, vag-com will not tell you where the draw is. Find someone who knows how to use an ammeter, pull fuses one by one until the draw goes away. As stated, it's probably the radio but there is only one way to be sure. If you need help with a draw test let me know.

is this the standard audi head unit or is it an aftermarket headunit such as alpine ????
the oe headunits should only work when the key is in the ignition ... when fitting an aftermarket headunit a lot of people wire the permanent live and ignition live to the same permanent feed
and this unfortunatly has this effect of flattening the battery
if however you wire the unit to another ignition live it should not draw any current

That's incorrect, at least for USA models. The radio can be turned on without the key in the ignition and automatically shuts off after ~30 minutes. This has been normal operation for the 2 VW's and 3 Audi's that I've owned over the past 10 years.

Just curious as to where the amp or alarm contol unit is in these cars. If after a heavy rain your car was screwy, you probably had water entry. Have you checked to make sure your plenum drains are clear? I know the old c6 audis had the trans control unit and alarm control unit (maybe it was the vehicle electrics cu) on the floor and if the drains werent clear we would get a mass of tow ins the next day ;P

I have something kind of similar...I keep getting noise out of the speakers stereo on or off, then when i hit a bump it goes away, hit another bump and it comes back.

That happens here too, but when you pull the key, you should still be able to turn the radio back on by hitting the power button. It's something I actually missed quite a bit when I replaced the OE unit with an aftermarket one. Now that I'm back to stock, life is good again.
