    Secondary Air Injection delete help!

I have a 01 A4 1.8t FWD 5sp. I put a new motor in it that has an AEB head with out the secondary air port in the back of it. I was told you can use a resistor to keep the ECU from throwing the check engine light. Any one know anything about this, like what resistor and where to put it?
    Thanks Patrick

the resistor things never work. i tried a bunch of different combinations and none of them would get rid of the CEL for the SAI. Only think that worked was having my ECU flashed to pass all readiness codes. PM k0mpresd on here as he does a great job and is very cheap compared to other tuners wo provide the same service.

    Running only on Amsoil fluids.
Amsoil products at wholesale pricing... Ask me how!

Yes that is correct, you have to get it written out of your ECU. I also had mine done by K0mpresd, mine works with no CEL after he fixed it.

The ECU is actually just controlling a relay for the Secondary Air Pump. It has no way of knowing if the pump is there or not, and doesn't really care. It *may* throw an "open circuit" code if you unplug the relay, though. What it *does* care about is the effect of the pump. It has to pump enough fresh air into the exhaust to change the O2 sensor readings in the correct way. That is where the code comes from: "SAI incorrect flow". It is measuring the flow, not merely the electrical resistance or current flow through the air pump motor. That is why you can't simply fake it in any other way. You must have a working system, or code it out.

So can it be written out with a VagCom or do i need to get it flashed with new sotfware? Where does the resistor go In the n112 harness or at the pump wiring?

You cant do it with vagcom, it has to be changed on the eeprom bin of the ecu. You have to have a cable that can dump the eeprom and write to it, then you have to change the appropriate value, and have a program such as winOLS which is quite spendy to verify your checksums.

^^^^ The man knows what he is talking about, get it recoded, deal with the light or put the pump back in.
