    hello fellow b5'ers,

i drive a 98 a4 and i'm upgrading my headlight to hid's (99's) and i have a little trouble folowing this diagram i found in the DIY section.
i have 2 new harness that i want to connect and i'm having a little trouble figuring out a couple of things and help would be very much appreciated.
up to now i have connected the high beam, the low beam, the ground and only the low beam seem to work.

    my question would be
1- to what wire do i connect the fog wire to on the new harness?
2- what are city lights? do we have them on the 98?
3- what are the extra wires for?

    thank you.

all you really need to do is take a test light. turn on each light individually. be careful not to short anything. and connect wires accordingly.

i just realiseed that the 99's have the fog lights in the bumper compared to 98's who have them in the headlight.

are the two extra wires for the power and ground of the balast?
to what do i connect them too.

You said first that you only have the low-beam working. In your picture it appears that only the high-beam is working. Wasn't sure on that one.

The extra wires in the connector are for the headlamp leveling motors.

^^lol thanks for pointing me out the low beam confusion, i'll switch around the low for the high.

i was going to say leveling motors too but thought they didn't existe in the b5 gen.
when i'll have some extra cash i'll do the leveling switch mod in the dash.

    thanks for the help guys.
    happy easter.

What is the leveling switch mod? I'm not familiar.

I just did this 2 days ago - I have a '99 and I put s4 xenons in. I'm not sure if this is going to help you or not as I have the harnesses from ecs and I don't know if they changed the wire color.

    Driver:
white/black = high beam // connects to red wire on the harness
white/green=fog/city // connects to orange wire on the harness
brown=ground // connects to brown wire on the harness
yellow/black=low beam // connects to yellow wire on the harness

    Passenger:
yellow/white=high beam // connects to red wire on the harness
white/green=fog/city // connects to orange wire on the harness
brown=ground // connects to brown wire on the harness
tan/white=low beam // connects to yellow wire on the harness
