    ABS module and inspection.

So my brother and i are talking today, and he says that you need your abs module to be in working condition to pass inspection.

Him and i wouldn't know because we have a buddy that slaps stickers on our cars letting a few things slide, but if we ever lose that guy, will we not pass?

i cant really believe this because it seems like 9/10th of the audi community has failing ABS modules. any shops ever give you problems? especially in PA

I live in Mass, and in Mass you don't need to have working ABS to pass inspection which is surprising because they are wicked anal about stuff here.

he said working abs isnt the requirement, but flashing brake light means it wont pass (and you get flashing brake light with the module being toast.)

my car wouldn't pass here in rhode island.. had to replace module.. no way around it here. I lucked out, found a guy who rebuilds them... It cost me 300 bucks. I had that done 15k ago and no problems. ( the reason i say i lucked out because the dealer wanted 700 for the module)

Solid brake light on means you have a failure in your brake system and they can't pass you, flashing brake light on indicates that your ABS module is acting up and will turn on and flash no matter what you do if your ABS module is dead.. The inspection people should know the difference between solid/flashing brake lights on an Audi.

Not 100% about PA, but in NY you can pass with the ABS module being bad.

I'm pretty sure it will pass with it in PA too though since that is where my car came from and the ABS module was bad when I got it.

Yeah I bought my car with a fried ABS module, got it inspected once so far and have no issues.. going for another one soon.. my friend has had his A4 w/ a fried abs module for 3 years now, 3 inspections and no issues.. they can look it up in the owners manual or whatever and it should say something about solid abs and flashing brake = fried module, but solid brake = failure in the brake system which they can't pass you on.

Got mine rebuilt, still had a blinking brake light. Passed anyways. Go PA.

just take out the flashing light on your dashboard....way cheaper, and no one will notice. Vag-com will indicate ABS problem not a brake failure.

My father's shop is a PA state inspection station. We pass lots of cars with non-working ABS. In fact, we often disable the ABS system if it is malfunctioning (activating without cause) for safety so it *will* pass. Flashing and beeping are no problem as long as the brakes are working properly.
