the paint code on my 2005.5 light silver metallic a4 is 5B5B when I run the vin online, however, the dealer gave me touchup paint with code LY7W.... is this the exact same color??? when i look online, i see both paint codes for audi a4 silver metallic... why would there be two codes for the same color???

    thanks

Where did you run the vin? I want to say our paint codes are located on a sticker in the spare wheel well.

^^^ yeah you have to check in the spare tire well. my 2005.5 is definitely LY7W so it is for sure a color used in 2005.5 models

OK so here's the story.. i went to the dealer to get a touch up paint stick.. they ran my vin and gave me LY7W.
    It seems to match ok.

I then ordered a can of spray paint from automotivetouchup.com in LY7W. I did some bumper repair and it was too dark.

I had Sexican run my VIN and this is what he sent me:

So I guess there are two possibilities, either my paint code really IS 5B5B, or automotivetouchup.com screwed up and made my paint too dark.

    any ideas?

you can see here the difference in color (ignore the paint flaw... after blending... the difference is still pretty much just as bad)

my silver 04 a4 was light silver metallic and code ly7w.

also, silver is one of the hardest colors to match. without proper blending, its going to look like a different shade.

LY7W is quartz gray which is darker than the light silver color that your car is. So the other code is most likely your color.

Check inside your wheel well or on the drivers side door. The color code would be written there.

Why does it matter, the objective is to make sure that whoever reads this thread doesn't run into the same problem... Right? Or does someone have a lame Millennial rebuttal for that as well?! LoL
