My AM radio in my car is not working. Everything else on the radio is working properly except the AM. This is really annoying and a MAJOR inconvenience as I miss out on sports and news/weather/traffic.

    Please help!!!

    Btw..... I drive a 2003 Audi A4 Quattro.

Did it used to work? Did you pull the head unit out to check the AM antenna is in place?

Yes, it used to work. No, I didn't pull out the dead unit to check if the AM antenna is in place. How do I pull of the head unit to check for the AM antenna to make sure it's in place??

I never knew people still listened to am radio. I guess in our current time most people I know have iPod hookups in their cars. I don't think I've listened to am radio for a good three to four years. Regardless just check that your am radio antenna is hooked up to
the back of your head unit. And Im under the assumption that it previously worked and all of
a sudden stopped? More details please

You need "radio keys" to pull the radio out. You can pick them up cheap on ebay or go to your local car audio installer and they may be nice enough to pull the radio for you...even if they aren't fixing your issue. You don't need the radio keys to put the radio back in, just to pull it out.

Once you get the radio out, just check that all the connections in the back are snug. Maybe try reseating them.

Mine is not functional as well. Been that way since I bought it. I believe it to be the booster under the headliner on the driverside rear. Mine has tons of cracks. Took some strategic placement of cut rubber peices pushing against it to get my FM to work. I don't listen to AM, but maybe same solution??? Unless AM is different. Im no audio expert. Just afraid to touch it again! Need my FM for the Ipod transmitter.

Thanks. I figured I needed "radio keys" or the hooks to pull out the radio out. I'll look in the service manual see exactly how to do this. Btw.... does anybody have a copy of the service manual they could give me a link to???

My AM radio reception dropped off considerably when the antenna amplifier failed on my 2002 A4. This is a common failure on the 2002 and 2003 A4. The antenna amp is located at the top of the rear window, behind the plastic trim (which just prys off).

Unfortunately, the fix is a new antenna amp, which from the dealer is $250. part number 8E5 035 225 D (now 8E5 035 225 S)

I think in 2004 Audi eliminated this part and went with a little shark fin antenna.

I think the shark fin is just for GPS/Navigation.

I have a B7 S4 and my AM reception is very bad.

Folks if u havent seen the ans to ur problem yet it is here AM-FM Antenna Booster

Just did mine this holiday weekend and added pics and description to help others today too.

Mine had been going bad since the car was under warranty like 2 years old. Dealer said it was nothing. Not until I got my VAG-COM few years ago did I see there was a connection issue. This year I had to make a move I was starting to drive with the radio off or tuned to music (gets boring same ole songs). Now the radio is better than ever. This should have been a recall campaign but many people don't notice cause they only listen to CDs or FM or Satellite options.

Do you have window film on your car? Metallized films can interfere with AM signals in some cars.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. I had to replace my booster and my AM still sucks because of my tint.
