$530 + labor for a new headlight ballast? Audi are you kidding me?!?!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
so my drivers headlight went out, and while i was in getting the free coilpacks i had them diagnose the problem.

so audi says that the problem is not the bulb but the xenon ballast. and they want $530 for the part alone.

has anyone had this problem? any cheaper place to get the part? i remember a thread on here from a while back where someone said that the part can be obtained through chrysler??

any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

I just got these on wednesday and put them in yesterday. These work 100% guarantee. Take off the old gaskets and put them on the new ballasts. Took a total of 10 minutes minutes to do. Save yourself some money!

If you don't do both they could be different colors, and if one goes out the other COULD follow.

I've been doing some preventative maintenance recently so i've been replacing a list of things and will be doing more soon. I just got ecodes for a friend of mine and I got two new bulbs with them so I decided to have a fresh set of headlights with new bulbs, ballasts and o-rings. $200 for ballasts is a good deal

just wanted to come back to this thread and say thank you for the help.

i got the part from moparparts.com for only 105 with shipping. came in 3 days. 10 minute install and it works perfect!!

the part was indeed the exact same one audi uses. the only difference is that the mopar one had a few different raised areas on the back, which threw me off for a second. but it was a direct fit and worked!!

thanks and props to audizine for saving me over 500 dollars!!

no i dont expect bargains from audi. my point is this:

if something breaks on my car, and it is a genuine AUDI part, well then okay- i guess i have to suck it up and buy an audi part from the dealer. my beef is that when something breaks that is a VALERO part, not audi, there is no reason that it should cost 530 instead of 95. that's just blatant rape.

similar story, a friend has a land rover LR3. took it in for some random problems and he was told he needed 4 new tires. was quoted 400 dollars EACH for the tires. these are NOT land rover tires. he went to a regular tire place and got them for 150 each instead. more blatant rape. not cool!!
