    Fast Track Placement?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Random question fellas. I just picked up a Fast Track and don't really feel like sticking it to the inside of my windshield. Anyone got a creative execution for mounting a Fast Track? I was thinking about behind my rear view mirror / radar mount, but figured I'd throw it out there anyway.

    Hmmm, maybe I'll Plasti-Dip it.

    TIA

Behind the mirror like you said is perfect. Then there's the corner of the window/dash.

I left it on the corner of the dash when I crossed the GGB on Friday. Kinda drove me nuts.

I'm thinking you're right... should try to get it behind the mirror. Might be able to affix it to the radar mount now that I'm looking at it. I hope it won't interfere w/the radar's reception.

In the Avant I've got it in the door storage compartment and in the TT... well I just said it's in the door storage compartment of the Avant... ...

Since you've registered your license plate(s) when you subscribed to FasTrak, there is actually no real need to have the transponder on the dash/windshield. I've gone thru different bridge tolls many times w/o having the transponder being pinged. They cross reference their registered license plates database before issuing violations. When you get your statement instead of the transponder tag number it lists your license plate.

Exactly. Don't do the corner, I did it, regretted it, changed it. Sit back the way you'd normally sit, and put the fasttrack directly behind the mirror from that point of view. That's the least obstructive.

And one more piece of advice - don't think that the HD crap double-sided velcro will hold in the sun. When I moved my fasttrack the vecro never held properly. So I replaced it with the HD double-sided velcro. But when it gets some heat, it peels off. Fortunately it happened to me while my sun visor was up, otherwise I'd have glue all over my dash! You can find high-temp velcro, use that instead.

That's what I do. I have never put the transponder in my car and no ticket. The license plate is just in the database and it charges the account when I go through.

Yep, I do this too. I have 2 vehicles on the acct, and the device sits in my drawer.

Oh, so that's how they do it. They guy I spoke with told me I should always carry it 'just in case so I don't get pulled over going through a toll area' which seemed a bit odd.

Wish I had the garage door space now. Funny, I had it back on my B5 and never used it once for anything.

Good call, I think this will be my plan. The FT is just so glaring it'll annoy the hell outta me if I see it.

And I was likely not going to use the tape / Velcro, but now I'm gonna remove it and mount the thing. Good info, thank you.

This is kinda hilarious... all of you guys have em and don't even use em. And I'm worried about a mounting location.

Oh San Francisco, when will you ever learn to fine tune your transpo projects?

    Thanks fellas.

I always keep the transponder in my glove box. But, I don't have to cross bridges every day. I throw it up on the dash when i need it and put it away right after

Figured out a great spot. Since I have the new slim version of the Fast Track, it actually fits quite well wedged in with the manual book underneath the steering column. Good times.

I keep my transponder at home and just drive on through since all my cars are registered. This way, you could lend your transponder to a trusted friend who needs to cross a bridge once in a while to save them time of paying toll and get it back when they're done. Helps if you have a caravan heading to Tahoe or through SF.

I don't usually use my center armrest so i just leave it in there. The bridges pick it up fine

I tried to leave my FT in the side door. It beeped on the toll in Vallejo but not on the Bay Bridge.

Orly... they do. Maybe I'll create a more permanent location inside the center console.

The signal strength (or lack there of) on certain bridges was something I wondered about, hence my interest in a permanent mount near the rear view mirror. Good to know.

It's so ridiculous D, I just got the glovebox in a little while ago. Damn thing would not play nice!

I was uber excited to relocate the Fastrack. It's kinda 007-ish IMO. Very fun. Makes me laugh just thinkin about it. Thanks!

Actually, I do. Errr, will. When I realized I might be able to pull it off... started snapping pics. Just gotta do a quick writeup.

Came across the Bay Bridge earlier tonight so I got to test it out... works just fine!

Will get something up soon, I'll be sure to post it in here as well Jonah.

The B6 franken-glovebox-stein mod yields at least 32whp. Getting it dynoed next week. You'll see.

Okay, okay. Getting Stoptech calipers rebuilt and installed. Then, it's on. I swear.

But you need that FMIC before it gets warm. Wait, S4 bumper? Awesome. If you want an extra set of hands for either, just holler. Totally down to help. Lets do this mang. That S4 bumper is gonna look sic! Stoked for ya.
