    CEL, whistling sound, rough idle

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So my CEL came on and I thought it was for service because I just 25,500 miles, but then right before I went on a trip I started hearing a whistling sound when my foot was off the gas. Also I think the idle has been rougher than normal. Anyone know what this could be? I will take it to the dealer if it's not something I can fix myself, but my work schedule is pretty rough since I work 9-6 and don't have a dealer close by. I think it will be under warranty right? my car is a 2007 2.0T. Will rep for any helpful responses

For one, the whistling sound prob means your dv (diverter valve) is gone. The rough idle might mean your pcv is gone. To check the pcv, have your car on and then try to remove the oil cap. If you feel like the cap is being sucked down and/or hard to pull off, then your pcv is gone. Its all under warranty so just take it to the dealer and they will correct it. Just tell them to replace the pcv, dv, and the updated coilpacks. That should take care of the idle, cel, and whistling sound.

i have the same issue.. i hear whistling but i don't have rough idle and no CEL..

should i still bring it to the dealership to have them look at it?

the whistling sound happens only after a cold start... after awhile i don't hear it anymore

Do u feel a loss in boost? If so take it to the dealer, your dv might be gone.

I had the same problem. They replaced DV Valve, and Crank Valve that sits on top of your intake manifold. Also make sure they replace all the coils for you..
I had the same problem with RPMS and Crazy sound that comes out of the engine when it’s cold... Sounded like I have birds under the hood. :)
Audi will replace everything for you. Just make sure to tell them about your RPMS, Coils and Crank Valve and DV Valve!!! And you are good to go..
Now my car holds better boost, I get 20 psi nonstop (well it’s chipped as well so it runs allot better now.)
    Take it to Audi !

Well when you feel a loss of boost at high rpm it must be the dv, I cant think of anything else. If it were the pcv you would need to have the car running and try and remove the oil cap, if the oil cap feels like its being sucked down then the pcv is gone.

can I wait till a CEL comes on before i take it in? I'm at 39k miles so I think my warranty ends at the end of the year or when I reach 50k miles.. I don't really experience any problems so far.. Haven't done the PCV test yet.. It won't do any damage to my car leaving it the way it is right?

I think the people at Audi will be more inclined to replace my parts and remedy it if there's a CEL.. I don't think they'd do anything for me if I just brought it in like that..

i think it may be my PCV.. im experiencing really bad mileage too..

i just did the PCV test.. when i lifted the cap a lil the engine started to idle.. once i replaced it, it was fine.. there was a vacuum kinda thing sucking the cap down though.. like i could hear the vacuum.. the cap was removed fairly easily.. there was some resistance but yeah.. not like it took a lot of strength to remove.. i didnt notice any oil spills around the cap

The sooner you take it to get fixed the better, if your experiencing a boost leak they will repair it. Just tell them to check the pcv, dv, and coil packs. I dont know if you may damage anything by not getting it fixed. If your by Syracuse, I took my car to Drivers Village they did everything I asked. They were good with me, I'm sure they will be the same with you. They also updated my coil pack with no hassle. Its your decision, better sooner than later, just my $0.02

I goto Clarkson University in Potsdam but I'm from NYC. I didnt pay anything since my warranty covered everything. It shouldn't cost you anything but an hour or so of waiting for them to finish. You still have warranty right?

Taking mine to Audi on Monday, thanks for all the help. Hopefully everything can get fixed in the same day. Do you think they would have to order the parts?

Audi will have those part in stock I'm sure of it. Sine a lot of people were having problems with these particular parts. Did you make an appointment and tell them what needs to be done?

i brought mine to the dealership today. guess i was just over paranoid, everything was already replaced except for coilpacks. they did it for free and all it took was an hour + wiper blades.

they do it for free if you're under warranty.. apparently those parts are under recall hence the free replacement

Sweet this is great news. Yeah I made an appointment for 7:45 AM told them that my CEL came on and I think it's the DV and PCV, also that I'd like my coil packs checked. They are going to shuttle me to work and my girlfriend is going to drive me there after work to pick it up. Hopefully it will all work out OK
