    225/40 or 225/35 on a 19x8.5 +25

    Looking for a mild stretch...

225/35 would look better but speedo would be off by a lot and wouldn't give much protection to the wheels.

225/40 would give more protection, but i'm not sure how the thick sidewall would look.

    Any suggestions?

Aren't 225 pretty thin tires? I would go with 255/35, thin sidewalls look so much nicer.

255/35 would be pretty chunky. What he's trying to do is force the thinner tires to fit a wider set of wheels to get the poke/stretch effect. I'd say 235 might be safer.

the 225/35 sidewall height without stretch is 3.10 inches. with the stretch, it will dip below 3 inches and that will be like riding on rubber bands. the 225/40 sidewall height is 3.54 inches and hover around 3 inches with stretch. the 25 offset may be too aggressive, no matter how thin you try to make the sidewall. and cornering at high speeds won't be fun either.

225/35 will be perfectly fine. I had a set on my CH's which were 19x8.5 and it wasnt much stretch AT ALL. If you end up being interested i am selling a hardly used set of nitto tires 225/35/19. They have ATLEAST 95% tread left, maybe more..

EDIT: also the speedo was off by barely 5mph.

Great, i've decided to go with 225/35. My tire calculator shows that the speedo will be off by around 1.5 mph which isn't bad (compared to my 18in sprt pkg tires). Thanks for the offer on the tires... I'd take them off your hand if you were local, but i will be ordering a new set instead.

I'd say 225/40 without a doubt. The sidewalls should be just as tall as 255/35, but appear thinner because of the slight stretch, so you get the best of both worlds. With the smaller tires, I'd be more worried about your odometer being off because it's registering additional miles that you aren't actually travelling.

    Hmmm... good point.
I'm just worried that 225/40 will look awkwardly tall and the thicker side wall might cause rubbing to the fender liner when going over bumps (car will be slameed on v1).

I don't think it will look awkwardly tall. The sidewall of 225/40/19 is almost EXACTLY the same height as 255/35/19, which is the stock S Line tire size. How low do you plan on slamming your car... tucking the tires behind the fenders?

Yes, the tires will be tucked with maybe 1/2 inch of the tire showing behind the fender.
