    2871r Eliminator housing change Help.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I currently have a 2871r elim but was wondering if the housing on the turbo could be changed, i would like a 2871r with external waste along with the T3 flange. Is it possible to make the swap? 'easy swap'? I should of just bought the full blown 2871r turbo to be honest my bad.

Id like to change the compressor and turbine housings.... Genuine garret.

    Thanks christian

can i ask why? if you go full gt2871r with a real agressive tune you will fk up your internals... elim should be perfect for keeping it right within a safe threshold

Seems like he is just asking if the swap is possible.

Sure it is possible. You will need a new T3 exhaust manifold, modified or new down pipe, different intake setup, and obviously a external wastegate + dump tube.

Is it worth it? Probably not... unless you upgraded to a 3076 and a different tune.

    Christian,

Is there any reason you want to go with a T3? T3 housings house a T3 turbine wheel, and you have a 28-series turbine wheel. Going to a T3 housing will spool your turbine wheel way out it's efficiency range, and add extra lag. Since you have an eliminator, which is a T25-based housing cased into a K03/04 inlet, I would stick with that. If you REALLY want to run an external wastegate, you will need a full-frame T25 manifold that supports an external wastegate, and simply have your internal flapper on the T25 housing welded/capped shut. Also, your only option for your 71R Eliminator is the T25/GT28R style 2-bolt housing, for your compressor wheel has a smaller inducer diameter (49.2mm/71mm) than the "full-frame" 2871's (51.2mm/71mm).

I have my internals sorted just had block rebore to fit 82.5mm Mahle Pistons / Eagle Rods. I just wish i have gone for something larger now i wanted to remain stock looking on the turbo side. I do have 2.5" inlet on the turbo rather than the crap stock fitting one. I was thinking of just buying the housings so that it was a full blown one obviously not if the compressor wheel is smaller in diameter. I know if i was to change the exhaust housing to a T3 it would help rather than the 3 bolt on factory as the exhaust holes alot smaller than a T3 mani, if i was to do this it would be possible to run a T3 mani with external as the rear housing can be purchased without the shutter door.

Its doable, i just did it in fact. Helped spool a lot and picked up 85ish ft/lbs and 50whp with supporting mods, 3in exhaust, spa mani, etc. I picked this one up:
