Just wondering, do any of you guys keep a sidearm in your car? Or, is it illegal to have a gun in your car, no matter what?

Not illegal in GA. but it needs to be in clear view like on the seat next to you.

I do not carry a gun because I'd end up in jail for using it.

I believe you have to have it in plain view unless you live in Alaska . I used to carry it all the time but I'll forget I have it in my car after a while, and that's not good. So now I only carry mine on road trips.

Laws are different state to state.
In Colorado as long as you don't have one in the chamber it doesn't need to be in view, but I don't carry mine in the car.

What is a CCW? IS that something only military or gov't personal can carry (assuming it's some sort of permit).

I think that in Cali it is illegal to even carry a loaded clip in your vehicle or on your person. Let alone having a loaded clip in your gun.

In California the gun must be unloaded and locked in a secure container/case. Cartridges can be kept in the passenger compartment.

That's very similar to the law in md. When I go shooting I usually carry it in a little gun bag I have, unloaded with the loaded clips in the same bag. I ususally put it in the back seat in plain view. Also in the bag are saftey glasses and ear muffs and recipts from the range so then know I'm not just effing around.

That makes sense only in Cali I guess. Hey mister car jacker,, hang on a minute while I unlock my piece and find the ammo in my glove box. F that,, u might as well just get out of the car and give it to him. What is with that state, is it run by Nazis? U guys have so many stupid laws. Among all the other stupid regulations that are only in CA,, maybe they should succeed from the US. Or maybe everyone should move out,, then the government will fail with no income, then we can all move back and start over. Keep the liberal whiners out of making all the laws this time.

I kind of have to agree with cj-S4. That's a dumb law to have, When my cousin, who lives in Sac told me about that I was shocked. It's going to be sad to see a 'good guy' get killed when they don't have their gun at hand one of these days. Criminals are never going to follow that dumb law.

It's only difficult to own a 'handgun' in canada, riffles are in a lot, if not most homes there.

I'm thinking of installing a paintball gun out the front of the wife's truck so she can "vent frustration" at those who cut her off...

Pretty sure it's not too illegal.

As for real guns in the car, check with the state troopers for the laws that govern your area...In California, only criminals can carry loaded weapons.

bah... a gun in your car isn't going to protect you anyways. I'f you're lucky enough to even squeze off a shot it's just going to hit the little old lady in the crown vic next to you or the 3 year old girl in the house down the street.

I'm very pro gun rights for law abiding US citizens but I have to agree w/ you. Unless you know it's coming, there's really no way to protect yourself from a car jacking. Plus one of the main things about owning and operating a firearm is to know your back stop. In a situation like a car jacking, even if I had my gun drawn, I'm not going to start shooting at the guy because theres a very good chance of missing and hurting innocent people. In that case you just hand the car over *or* if you feel lucky, duck and hit the gas

LOL.. All of your guys’ scenarios are funny. You have been watching too much news and too many action movies. Chances are chances... Those who take them, chance life, death, their car, kids down the street, or actually getting the criminal.
Bottom line it's the individual’s choice what to do (unless you live in CA) and what you are willing to risk, and that's the way it should be. IMHO

In PA you can have one in the car. If you are going to carry it you need a concealed weapons permit. To get that all you have to do is apply for it and pass a few background checks.

I'll own an AR-15 in a couple months.

Man, I totally agree. All these guys on her throwing out "you could never get your gun out in time if you were getting carjacked". Like carjacking is the only crime in the world you could ever be faced with.

Hey bro, while I agree with you about Lib's generalizing everything, I think they specifically mentioned car jacking because of where the gun has to be kep in the car per the law. It's just one facet of the gun argument. I'm pro second ammendment and I feel the only people that gun laws affect are law abiding citizens. It just pisses me off so much when people want to say that guns are evil and we shouldn't be allowed to own/operate them. Shoot, I would make everything right up to a grenade launcher legal. If the criminals have fully automatic weapons-yes...they do....why can't I protect myself and my family with at least the same measure of force? Some of the laws in this country are upside down.
