What happened to the last little bit of revs on the RS4? Your graph reminds me of how my m3 dyno'd...just cut off at 7800....
How many kms was on the RS4? Wonder if the carbon build up affected this particular car.
    Cheers!

around 7850 the power drops off as it's ending the run so I cut off the graph.

Good topic, 2 stock cars run back to back on the same dyno - I like it!

Question about the B7 RS4 - how clean were the intakes? Any thoughts to carbon buildup on them since this is an older car compared to the B8?

Interesting to see, I've heard about this a couple of times already on here where the b8 has a rather impressive pull compared to an Rs4.

After hearing so many recent threads about carbon and misfire issues I'm starting to look at the s4 more than the Rs4 as a next car....

Oh and if you want to see some action on this thread, someone cruise over by the B7 chatterbox and point them this way - though I think Sak is gone now.

Do you guys have any dyno's for the S5? I wonder if the S5 is also underrated because the S5 does the 0-60 about the same and the 1/4 also about the same as the S4.

I've been watching these forums for a while, and from everything I have seen I bet the next RS4 will have a pretty similar engine to the S4, but with that 400lbs weight reduction they are testing with the new frame (see another thread for that). That thing will fly, even if they only moderately bump the engine output from the S4.

    Awesome, awesome post!

Very cool differences...really makes one appreciate each motor!

So, the question is, do you like to rev?

Or...does one prefer the early/constant boat-load of torque...?

    Win win.

The thing I like about the S4 output over the RS4 is the mid-range advantage, which is what counts on the street IMHO.

This discussion is the same as the ones that happen on the BMW forums with the chipped 335 and the M3. The 335 has more torque but the M3 revs much higher.

Different cars for different purposes. One is a very good DD and the other is a very good track car where higher revs are useful. S4 vs RS4 / 335 vs M3. The best is to own both!

hehe, its interesting to see how that curve changes when you can add loads more boost up top.

    You tease!!!

Hey so about the RS4 - can you speak to it's mileage or the potential of carbon?

the S4 factory curve starts to limit boost at high rpm, this is why it has a very flat torque curve and a low peak hp after such a low rpm. Its not that the tuned version poushes high boost, as it maintains boost to redline.

The sportec curve shows this quite well. from 3000rpm to 7000rpm the tuned version makes increasingly more hp. The curves slope is just steeper past 3000. Take the great stock curve that dominates the rs4 in the midrange, then add just as much domination on the top end, and you have the tuned S4.

add the hp and torque curve past 5000rpm to the stock curve.......poor rs4. weak sause in the 2010s decade.

S5 cab should be underrated just like S4. S5 coupe is just an V8. I don't think there is any buzz about it being underrated by that huge margin.

12.8 vs 13.2 they are close. Now that we know what's hindering the S4, I'm sure it will blow away RS4 after tune.

    Wait a sec........

So S4's stock HP is closer to 400HP?

The APR graphs are so fucking impossible to read. Red should be one color, and the white should be another. This is so fucking confusing to look at.

I had a B7RS4 before and a S4 now. I have not done any performance testing but the butt dyno tells me that they are very very close in terms of acceleration. The S4 being the S-tronic is obviously easier to do it repeatedly. However, the RS4 does feel more powerful in the lower range, where the S4 is all torque.

I have to stress that it is from my personal experience and no testing whatsoever.

Is this the same S4 whose dyno of about 330 WHP started all the debate ? didn't you have the opportunity to dyno another one ? thanks,

The S4 dynoed at 316 whp on APR's dyno. The 330 whp was the corrected number.

It's from the AWE exhaust teaser post. They use a mustang dyno. Everything I've seen from them seems to make sense as far as numbers go. Stock B5 S4 puts down 190 whp. My APR stage 3 A4 put down 224 whp on the same summer day that a friend's T28 A4 put down 225 whp. The numbers and curve seem to agree with the APR numbers. Hopefully their exhaust numbers are coming soon.

Dyno results are dyno results, it has little to do with 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. The 0-60 and 1/4 times can depend largely on gearing, tire/road condition and the all important, human factor. The V8 S5 was dyno'ed to be ~30whp less than the V6 S/C engine ( http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ght=S4+S5+dyno ) a little while back.
