So im planning to buy H&R coilovers but what else do I need to buy? Is there anything else that I need to buy apart from the coilovers themselves any extra parts needed for the install? Thanks..

If you don't need both hands on the wheel, then you're NOT driving.

You don't NEED anything else but you can get a camber kit if you are going low. There's a couple other things that people recommend but I can't remember off the top of my head.

since you've got to pull the old struts and springs for the new coilovers, you might also consider replacing other suspension parts that are easily accessed. Like ball joints, tie rod ends, controll arm bushings, and downlinks. Those parts wear with age and labor to change them now is significantly less if done now now. Plus, you dramatically tighten-up that suspension...better than new. Give it a thought.

    cheers.

Those are all good ideas as you are already in there, and replacing all of this at one time should square you out for quite a while. This combined with coil overs will probably make you car feel new again.

It isn't terribly expensive at all. I added up everything mentioned about and it worked out to just under 270 bucks. I carted it in case you'd like to look at it all for yourself, click here to see it all added together.

SmoothTT, I found the best prices on the web for the suspension items were at autohauseAZ.com out of phoenix. followed by genuinevwaudiparts.com. compare them with ECStuning before you pull the trigger..

    cheers

At a minimum you should make sure you change out the front strut bushings and bearings. And as mentioned before, if you're lowering the car a bit, you may need some camber adjustment in the rear (presuming you're quattro).

    quattro = WUB!!!!

oh and if you go too low or too wide of tire in the rear you will need custom adjustable control arms

    1. if you are going to lower a mk1 TT you should get the "1/2 kmac camber kit". if its just springs and shocks and it's not too low you need this kit at bare minimum for the rear camber:

    http://www.ttstuff.com/mm5/merchant....ry_Code=T1PSSP

    2. if you are really going low on coils you need the "FULL kmac kit" which is also sold at ttstuff.

    3. you should 100% definitely replace all the stock strut bushings while the work is being performed. they are cheap enough to get them and install them right the first time. trust me, i was only at 60K when i replaced my TT suspension and all the bushings were shot.\

    4. regarding the guy who posted above me about the custom arms, true, they would be nice. but at 600+ bucks a set the KMAC is an easier and cheaper solution.

    5. mjmautohaus.com has great suspension packages available that are cheap and are tax-free if you dont live in TX. i got a lot of my parts from them.

i didnt get coilovers but instead got this:

    http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/p...oducts_id=2705

it was cheap and lasted 50K miles until the car was totalled. it sat slightly higher than coils. BTW i cracked two oil pans, and finally my car was totalled by a rock smashing the 4th oil pan thanks to me being lowered, so personally i would shy away from the super-low stance here in jersey.

here it what it looked like with the kmac kit, neuspeed/koni fsd package, and neuspeed front and rear swaybar installed:

and here she is just for fun on the last day of her life:

TT's have little ground clearance even at the factory ride height. unless you live where there are no dips in the roads, and perfect driveway entrances everywhere, I wouldn't go much lower than stock, even though it does look good, you risk doing what happened to the fellow above and tearing off the oil pan. I kept the stock springs, and upgraded to Koni adjustable shocks.. made a huge difference in car control and overall feel.

YES absolutely. you can go with adjustable control arms but IMO its more money for no reason when the kmac works perfect for a lot less.

theres a place in mountainside NJ called KMD tuning that can do it all for you no problem. audi specialists.

ANY drop at all, you will need at least 1/2 KMAC (or other) camber kit. I run vogtland springs with bilstein sport front and koni adjustable rear shocks, with 1/2 KMAC's I can barely get the rear camber to 2.2, 1.5 would be nice, but isn't happening without FULL KMAC bushings, wish I would have ponied up the extra dough. Anyone who tells you you don't need camber correction in the rear with a drop is insane or their car is a freak.

Yeah, I would do something to correct your camber if I were you. I'm corner balanced and pretty low. I've got about 1 1/2 fingers of space in the wheel well. I'm really careful when hitting inclines and other obstacles. I have the 1/2 kmac, and Im going to switch to adj. Control arms. Gruvenparts has them for really good prices. The bushings in my kmac completey fell apart.

I would do sways...especially knowing the issues that these MK1's have with the plastic connections (especially on the front sways) cracking off...
