I believe it's a 12mm, but I can't guarantee that at the moment. I have a set which includes 6,8,10,12 and it's one of the two bigger ones.

I just changed an axle last weekend. It's a 10mm triple square. Enjoy!

5 or 6, think I listed it in my coolant flange diy regarding loosening the lines that run along the head. Probably a 5mm. This is for right above the turbo manifold right, the long narrow shield with the oil feed line going to the turbo?

So 100% on a 10MM Triple square? Do we use any other tripple squares on our cars? Cause if I get a few in a pack that doesn't cost to much more I'm fine with that.

It's definitely 10mm for Quattro. I believe it's different for FWD. You can buy a set of 4 (6,8,10,12) from AutoZone or Pepboys but they call it a 12 point metric "internal wrench set". To save you the several different arguments I had with sales reps at all of the auto parts stores in my area the part number is 25015.

Where is a good place to buy axles other than raxles? Their prices have gone up significantly lately.

It's 6mm on the clutch and I think 12mm on the flywheel? Don't bother with Napa/Carquest sets, order decent ones

Yeah I was going to say I used the 12mm one at some point doing my clutch+flywheel. The set I got from Carquest sucked. I destroyed it on the second axle bolt. The set from Autozone/Pep boys ("OEM" brand) is much better quality.

The pressure plate bolts are allen (6mm like you said), the flywheel is the triple square.

In the world of tools, almost always you get what you pay for. Buy a nice tool once, or buy and break, exchange, break again, exchange...

So...when you replace the front axles on a '03 A4 3.0 quattro automatic, do you have to separate anything in the suspension or can they be pulled w/o suspension disassembly?

No suspension disassembly required. The axles telescope a bit and there's enough room to pull them out. The inboard CV's are a bucket design so they come off really easy, then just drop them down a bit and you can wiggle the other side out of the suspension upright.

On my 2003 A4 3.0, the upper control arms needed to be separated to get the axles out, and it was still very difficult to maneuver them out. I had to try various steering angles, and change the front suspension compression to get the damn things out. Not fun. Maybe it's easier on different years/motors but it really sucked on my car.

You don't need to do that. I'm going to do a writeup on suspension/axles to show people how to not mess with the pinch bolt

I changed my passenger side inner boot the other day on my 1.8t 5speed.

same thing I changed the tranny oil and found a recently broken boot. I was able to unbolt the 6 bolts from the transmission cup and move the axle out of the way just enough to take the cup out and clean the cup and bearing. Put a new boot and grease and bolted it back up. I never had to take the axle out nor did I touch the pinch bolt I dint even need to take the tires off the car.
