    Coolant hose + warranty question..

    hello all.

    05 S4 here with 35k on the clock. CPOd until 2011 or 50k.

    Brought the vehicle to the dealer for a power steering and coolant leak.

    Power steering - Clamp issue. Fixed under warranty.

    Coolant leak - Hose issue, dealer states hoses are wear and tear = not covered under warranty. Asking $500+ for parts and labor.

    This is the 1st time I have heard of this as I previously owned a C5 A6 which had hose issues, which was covered under warranty.

    I don't have a manifest since the dealer is keeping her overnight, so i cannot post the exact issue. Please advise.

    Thanks
    meh..

    I deal with some aftermarket warranty's and stuff like hoses, belts and stuff like that are classified as wear and tear.
    I dont see how a coolant hose is 500 for parts and labor.

    I also have a 2005 CPO. I just looked at the CPO literature that came with my car, and it states under "What is Not Covered":
    "Accessory belts and hoses that wear as a result of normal use."

    So, technically they are in the right; however, I know my dealer would hook me up. If you can't talk them into saying it was the result of an abnormal failure, then I would tell them I'm taking my business elsewhere.

    Re: Coolant hose + warranty question..

    All aftermarket warranties suck.

    Items not covered by CPO:
    * Repairs already covered by the Audi Limited New Vehicle Warranty; this warranty is secondary to the Limited New Vehicle Warranty
    * Radio and Navigation
    * Tires
    * Maintenance services and adjustments
    * Wear items
    * Damage or malfunctions due to lack of maintenance
    * Damage or malfunctions due to misuse, negligence, alteration, accident, or fire
    * Damage caused by the environment
    * Cost of maintenance services

    I think you could classify a lot of items in the bullets above. They must have a more specific list of items covered. I'd tend to think that a hose failing in an 05 model year car is not maintenance related. BTW the $500 listed above is parts and labor. I could easily see the parts costing $100+ and then at $120+/hr you could easily hit $500. Stop by and have them show you the leak. If you think you can tackle it do it on your own.

    UPDATE:

    Got the car back about 1.5 weeks ago. Dealer fixed (supposedly) the power steering leak, but not the coolant hose - was being charged $530 to get it fixed (parts + labor).

    Fast forward to 2-16: Brought it to another dealer for the same issue. Got a call today stating that the lower coolant hose was leaking, and that the part was ordered and will be arriving tomorrow. They also mentioned that the power steering fluid was leaking (i thought that was fixed?), and that the right valve cover gasket was leaking as well.

    Best part? All covered under warranty. :thumbsup:

    Won't air out dealer #1's name, just because i am a nice guy. If any of you that live in Chicago want to know the name of this shady stealership, feel free to PM me.
    meh..
