    b7 2.0t vs b8 2.0t

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Please add info on this topic of b7 2.0t vs b8 2.0t. I would prefer a comparison of stock vs stock, stage 1 vs stage 1, stage 2 vs stage 2, and so on. This is to help me decide on my next car and I really don't want a 335i. Any stats like 0-60, hp, torque, 1/4, ect.. would be helpful.

Im looking to compare the b7 a4 and b8 a4. I currently own the b7 a4 and have done mods to it. So I am hoping to upgrade to the b8 a4 2.0t will give me increase in power with about the same modding over my current car so I dont have to go 335i route. Looking to spend about 30k.

    Regards,

    Matt

Unless something drastically changed that I don't know about, they should be pretty similar.

400HPA4 from the B6 side ran his 1.8T 71R elim @ 28 psi (91 oct) with a B8 w/ exhaust and APR flash (on 91 oct). The result? Too close for comfort.

    Re: b7 2.0t vs b8 2.0t

B8 2.0t has quite a bit more torque stock. 207 ft lbs (B7) vs 258 ft lbs (B8). It only has 11 more horsepower though (200 hp for the B7 vs 211 for the B8).

Whats up man!! you gotta let me ride in the b8 if you get one haha

the b8 2.0T is a completely new redesigned engine...I think I'd go with that if I had the money.

on the other hand the b7 2.0T has won awards left and right for being such a great engine, although it needs to maintained like a mother f***er.

Cam follower every 10k miles or so on a chipped car, the coil pack recall, the fuel pump problems, PCV.... pretty much everything you see on the common problems thread that relates to the engine.

If all this is kept in check the b7 2.0T is great,
Although I'd definitely give the b8 2.0T a run for its money.

Good luck with whatever you do!

    Re: b7 2.0t vs b8 2.0t

You have the DSG option in the B8s too. The entire drivetrain improved so you should be .3-.5 seconds quicker at stage 1 in the 1/4 mile is my guess.

BTW, my fiance drives a 08 335xi and its MUCH faster than my APR stage 2 A4. Reviews claim her car runs 1/4 mile in ~13.4-13.7 all day. I'd be lucky to get those times even with an $4000 APR S3 kit.

If it's acceleration you like the most, 335 is definitely the way to go. That car with just a chip is pushing high 12s in the quarter mile.

Hows it going. Ya I usually get another car every year or 2. I get bored really fast and I really like the B8 look just want a little more power than my current car with only a tune. The 335i are fast but Id look like a tool driving it.

You say b8>b7 but after looking at the APR stage 1 numbers the B8 is down on HP compared to the b7 but up on torque. Id really like to see these cars go head to head.

S-Tronic for the S4 but not A4s. We just get the regular 6-speed TIP. S-Tronic is offered on the A4s over on the other side of the pond though.

you also have to remember apr has had 5 years to correct there tune on the b7, the b8 has just come out, give them another year or two and the b8 tune will be much better

someone should set something up with a B8 A4 roughly same mods and post up a vid. Would be interesting.

IMHO I would take torque over hp, especially if the hp numbers are pretty similar. Just throwing that out there.

In a 4-banger the biggest thing lacking (again IMO) is torque, so.... there that is.

    Re: b7 2.0t vs b8 2.0t

B8 is a bigger car, but more solid and smooth. Engine has had most of the reliability issues fixed.

However, each generation gets harder to tune. We are nearly five years on from the introduction of the 2.0T and just now getting choices for BT setups and have not yet begun to find the real limits of the motor.

If you want big power from a BT setup in a smaller, lighter, but less refined or reliable package, the B7 might be the car...

    Food for thought.

Yes, thats much more sensible than just getting a B8 S4 and simply chipping it.

Not that I know of. The only US Audi cars that have S-Tronic are the B8 S4, TT and A3 iirc.

The B8 2.0 has cam lift, which in turn will call for more torque then a B7... This also will give you more power as you continue to mod a B8 when parts become available.

Is there a weight difference between the B7 and the B8? That would level the field if the B8 is heavier. It is a bigger car.
