    Crankcase Breather Valve

Anyone have this problem? Took my car into Audi the other day for a routine oil change... car has 60K on it. They found the crankcase cover leaking oil, so they replaced the crankcase breather valve, cover and gasket... this a common problem?

YEP! I think on all audis no matter make or model. I just replaced all my PCV tubes and valves, I was getting oil out the top under my oil cap. Yeah its a common problem for sure.

Yes, those are prone to fall apart over time and break into pieces.

    Re: Crankcase Breather Valve

I believe it is a common problem. I had mine replaced (PCV valve) and it felt like my car came back to life. Car had 32,000 miles at the time. They said that my PCV was clogged/gunked up.

    Re: Crankcase Breather Valve

Would a atmospheric or blow off valve prevent this problem? I guess alot of the pressure is being built up and cracks the seals...

    Re: Crankcase Breather Valve

I think a catch can would prevent this problem. I think the more common issue is that the PCV gets clogged and in turn pressure starts to build up.

Not necessarily. The PCV uses a diaphragm which is prone to failure. Basically, you have a few ways to fix it.

    1) Get the stage 1 PCV fix from BSH (bshspeedshop.com)

    2) Get the stage 2 PCV fix which includes a catch can from BSH

    3) Have the dealer replace the PCV system with an updated version

The atmospheric BOV has nothing to do with the PCV system.

The 2.0t has problems with PCV failure and oil seepage like you have describes. There have been several revisions to the PCV system. We carry a few different PCV fixes depending on year/VIN of your car. "L" is the latest revision for early VINs and "E" is the latest revision for late VINs.

So if my car is under warranty and nothing is wrong with my car I can just go in a ask them to replace my PCV?

In my situation I had oil around the coilpack area and around the oil cap. At first they replaced the valve cover (even though I told them I thought it was the PCV). Shortly afterwards, oil showed up again. This time around they actually replaced the PCV. I also told them that I noticed that the car wasn't pulling as nicely as it was, which was a result of the bad PCV. Regardless, usually there has to be a reason to have the item replaced. And my car is still under the original warranty.

Unfortunately, it all depends on the dealer. Most will require an MIL to perform the service. Never hurts to ask though.

Mine was replaced during my 25k mile Audi Care service. I had complained when I took it in of hard shudders during start-up, they checked and found that it was whistling so went ahead and replaced it.

My car was leaking oil from the fill cap and valve cover gasket. No check engine lines or shudders or rough idle. The dealer replaced the valve and the oil leaks went away. That was at about 23k miles.

    removing hoses

When changing the crankcase vent valve how do I remove the two hoses without breaking them. They have some kind of clamp on the end of them.

Pinch both ends (top and bottom) and pull.

HI, I have 2005 2.0 tfsi quattro and I need to ask,
is it true that we who have the latest ,,L'' PCV revision need to have also a breather tube which goes down to turbo together with a check valve in it?
(metal hose like in the picture above)??

    thanks

    Breather Valve Replaced under warranty

Just found out this was my problem, symptom was a nasty whine coming from under the hood. My initial thought was a belt, but after closer inspection sounded like maybe the turbo or the vacuum system.

I didn't put 2 and 2 together, there was a rather large oil mess under my hood when I first noticed the sound, I just assumed that it was the oil stop making a mess when they topped up my oil the other day!

Sonnen in San Rafael, CA happily replaced it under warranty.

Im on my second one now. I had the same issues. super rouch idle. was like the damn engine was trying to break free!. ha, replaced it cleared up the issue. Then had something similar happen again, took it in because i was getting El flashing they ended up replaceing the valve again along with coil packs and something else i cant remeber rite off hand. Seems to happen often, the way the car acts as it happens tho makes you think the $h!ts falling to pieces.
