    VMR Gunmetal Touch Up Paint

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok, so I got VMR gunmetal wheels. Been real careful about curbs and stuff, but doesnt help to be in a city. No rashs yet, but seem to have a small chip, happed over last snow storm I guess. So question is, anyone use touch up paint on them? Asked vmr and the said I could use dupont touch up paint, but not sure what code to go with...
    Anyone?

I'm also curious about this. I have some chips developing on mine too. It would be nice to get the color codes from VMR if Dupont is in fact what is on the wheels.

Is that the duplicolor spray wheel paint or just the tube of touch car paint?

So tried Duplicolor GRAPHITE Touch Paint...doesnt match at all. Now this was the car touch paint, maybe your taking about just the wheel paint that comes in the cans?

We're actually in the process of finalizing touch up paints for our wheels, as soon as that's done I'll let you know!

What I would like to know is why the VMR wheels chip and flake so easily. I purchased my V708's back in '08 and they started chipping within months...3 out of the 4. I would only apply soap and water to clean the brake dust off too.

The OEM sport wheels hold up much better

    What gives?
I know a set is only $800 but still. Now I have to drop $500 to get all the wheels refinished.

I'm sorry to hear that you experienced chipping, unfortunately, this is something that can happen the first day you put new wheels on your car, or a few years down the road, regardless of who the wheel manufacturer is. If there's road debris constantly impacting wheels at freeway speeds, eventually, some will hit at the right speed and right angle to cause chips.

However, if you would like, you can send me pictures of the chips so we can take a look and see if this is something that is abnormal, and outside the realm of regular wear and tear.

Check your box, I shot you over a PM

Unfortunately, I've had the same experience with mine. They look great other than the fact that they chip so easily.

Net contents: 1/2oz(11.7ml). It's a paint pen about the size of a sharpie.

I would have imagined it'd taste more like rusty pennies :D. The paint pens are good for little rock chips and blemishes, but if you need to repair and repaint some curb rash it probably won't get the job done.

One of my gunmetal vmr's was curbed. What would be the best way to go about repairing it? I know the scrape needs to be smoothed out, but will it have to go in for a full respray? and what would be the proper type of paint..

    Thank you

Typically if the damage is on the face of the wheel it will indeed need to be resprayed. All our finishes are custom mixed at our factory, so it's not something another shop would be able to match exactly since all the paint codes are internal. Really your best bet is to get all 4 wheels custom powder coated to a new finish so all four match or pickup a replacement wheel.
