    Need Crankcase Breather Hose

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I need help find the crankcase breather hose cheaper that the dealer. Which wants $72. That is just for the breather hose. Also need the T and I believe it's a check valve or pvc that connects to the T. Does any one have the part number for the crankcase hose or a place that sells it cheaper. I checked ECS. They have one that looks like the right one, but doesn't list my model for it. Looks like this.

    http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Cran...Hose/ES523283/

    I have an 02 B6 1.8 quattro.

    VIN WAUL68E02A125971

    Thanks for the help.

It will cost you ~$300 to buy all oem parts in replacing the vent system. That's why I simplified it with heater hose and brass connectors...will never have a problem with everything falling apart again.

I used this when mine cracked. But then again I just run this with a nipple to a hose that leads to the ground, or you can route it to a catch can.

This man speaks the truth! Heater hose is cheap and if you can get the brass connectors they will last forever. The one time OEM hose clamps suck and loosen up over time and cause small leaks everywhere, so make sure to replace as many as you can with a worm gear hose clamp.

Thank for the imput. I assume since the tube is broken that is what is making my car run like crap. Seems like it's running one three cylinders. Could this be the issue? I just replaced the coil packs with Hitachi E's about 6 months ago. When it was running kind of same way.

A leak in the crankcase vent system can cause stalling and misfiring...which sounds like your issues.

it's definitely the issue...mine broke a while ago too. definitely listen to greg as i thought i was getting in way over my head with the heater hose simplification, but he made it easy. when i finished doing what greg had instructed me to do my car ran better than it did the day i bought it. also, the parts cost me about $25 total, which is better than the hundreds of dollars you'll waste trying to replace that stuff as every single line in the system is molded together by the heat and you would have to replace every piece.

    Re: Need Crankcase Breather Hose

I'm going with the 034motorsports plug with the brass connectors and heater hose.

Also I notice some oil on the spark plugs when i pulled them out. Looks like a I'll be replacing the headgasket also. Since I'm doing that I figured I might as well do the timing belt also since I'm nearing 90,000. Is ECS a good place to get this stuff from?

    Thanks again guys.

    Re: Need Crankcase Breather Hose

This is what I did, along with the check valve simplification. I have a post written in the simplification thread but the mods have yet to approve it to be posted unfortunately.

Here was my solution which only cost me a few bucks. I used 1" ID hose to the reducer and 3/4" ID hose to the valve cover hose. The reducer was made from 3/4" NPT threaded tube, a 3/4" NPT to 3/8" NPT reducer, and a 3/8" NPT threaded tube. I used a hacksaw to cut the threaded tube as small as possible and still allow a clamping surface. If you want the write up to be posted...maybe PM the mods and ask them to approve it? Either that or just ask questions here.

The oil was on the treaded side of the plugs. Wouldn't that be the head gasket?

I was not aware of the recall. I think I would rather just redo it so it doesn't happen again.

That would be your valve cover gasket. Easy fix and fairly inexpensive

Edit, on the threaded side you mean on the electrode side, or on the side where you put the socket?

They probably only got oil on the electrode side when you pulled them out. Your valve cover gasket is allowing oil to get by, but it's not getting on the electrode part because that's threaded and sealed. Once you taken them out, the oil moves down to the bottom. It wouldn't spark if the electrode was covered in oil while sealed in the motor.

    Change your valve cover gasket.

Which hose was specified in that campaign? Do you have a link to the TSB? I just had to replace a bunch and hope it wasn't part of a recall

Ok great info, but what about the T under the intake mani? I just see the heater hose line going up to the valve cover, but how do you incorporate the T fitting and it's fittings?

P.S. This really is an informative thread and being it's a common problem I say it gets stickied into say a Maintenance Thread.

I got rid of all the check valves on that side of the motor. It makes the car so much easier to work on and the engine bay is so much cleaner. All in all though I probably should have just replaced the piece(s) that were bad. I worry about selling the car now since its more modified than a lot of people would want.

If Audi didn't have all that plastic hose garbage and used rubber hoses instead, I would have definitely kept them.

Alright I see all that garbage you're talking about now that I'm tracing hoses while working on it. Got that metal clip off thank God, but as Greg said in another thread "...then pull #2 straight up..." is much easier said than done. Thusly, do you (or anyone) have any tips on pulling that plastic elbow out? I moved coolant reserve away and can get my arm into the bay and hand pronated on it but wiggling and pulling seems hopeless.

    TIA, guys... =]

Oh lol p.s. I also managed to do the "Euro Dipstick Delete" while prying on the metal clip, ha. Thank God it's only ~$10 ha...

Alright, thanks everyone for the great help and information the car feels great; however I need this rubber elbow here in the picture I've edited from the "Vacuum Simplification" thread and circled in red. No idea the name or part number and search vacuum equipment gives unsatisfactory results.

Just for future reference and the archives, that hose can be replaced with heater hose without doing any removing of check valves/rerouting/simplification at all. You just replace the broken part of hose with heater hose, and retain that 3-way t-fitting under the intake manifold. I did a writeup here

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...tle-Crumbly%29

(or if that link isn't valid, look in the B6 tech section).

Just putting this post in all of the threads I used for reference.

I pulled my Intake manifold when I did this. SO much easier to work on everything. IM gasket was only 7$ from dealer and takes like 15 mins to pull if that. Once that is off you can see everything perfectly. I wish I had pics of my setup. Basically what Greg did though, brass fittings and heater hose.

Not to bring this back from the dead but Im having an issue with the plastic piece in the picture above... I did the vaccum delete and this piece was broken so I cant put it back in because its held in with that clip. It was cracked and barely holding on before I started. My car is now misfiring and running like shit. I also have a low coolant warning? What can I do in the meantime until I can order a new piece? TIA!

Don't think there's much to do besides deal with it, if you were in there make sure you plugged the coolant tank level sensor back in. I'd check the dealer again for the part as they should stock it and prices have really come down, I got one for my 97 AEB for $35

Im not sure how fairly priced your dealer is, but often times my local deal, Audi Central Houston, is on par with ECS and GAP with no shipping of course. The dealerships gets a bad rep for their labor charges, but you might me surprised on their parts pricing.

Audi Club of North America members usually get a 10%-20% discount on top of that as well.
