    front license plate install

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well, this seems almost ridiculous to ask, but for the life of me, I cannot seem to figure out how to remove the front license "filler" plate from my A4 B6 Cabriolet. It has that black plastic filler piece where a euro license would go. There are no screws anywhere, and the only thing I can think of is removing the entire bumper to get access to it. It seems located right in front of the metal bumper underneath. I gotta think there's an easier way. I already bought my custom euro-plate. Now I just want to put it on, and not with double side tape as I've seen in previous posts. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Re: front license plate install

To correctly put it on you need a euro plate frame and have to drill holes in the bumper. I would not do that personally, and it will look cleaner with out any plate imho.

    Re: front license plate install

Your options are to either drill holes in it, or 3m double sided tape it. I recommend the latter.

So if double sided tape is the answer, then why do they have a cutout for the european plates in the bumper? What's it's functionality?

x3, the 3m tape will initially hold it but later you'll loose it, after it gets wet and with mother nature. Trust me, I have...

You'll see the filler plate above. Someone told me it just pops off to reveal 2 screwholes for the EuroPlates???? I can't seem to see where it pops off and I'm afraid to use too much force. Ideas?

    Re: front license plate install

The cabrio bumper is just like the S4 bumper, it has a europlate cutout. It does not come out, its just so you can line up the plate holder for when you drill holes. I have had my bumper off may times, there are no holes for the europlate under it... don't try to take it off, you could easily break it and have to buy a whole new bumper.

Sorry to hear that, but at least that's the most intelligent answer I've gotten. Having said that, do you think I should screw into it or just use tape? Thanks.

    Re: front license plate install

I figured it out! Apparently all you do is rip the plastic cut-out from the bumper, careful not to break the clips, and guess what? There are 4 screw holes underneath ready to mount a European license plate...

It was actually an easy solution. You just need a flat head screwdriver or something similar, and slowly pop off the filler plate. It's affixed by plastic tabs underneath that will pry/pop off with enough force. Once removed, you'll find 2 (maybe it was 4) screw holes that you can screw in the plate.
