A4 Avant??

Where are the Avants? All the cars I've seen on the Audizine.com B8 threads are Limo's! Here in Europa I think 70% is a wagon.

What's youre reason to buy a limo? An Avant got a bigger boot then a limo, so people with kids or something would like the space...

Supply and demand.

Wagons are not huge sellers in the US and A. They were in the late 70's and 80's, but then the minivan took over in the late 80's, then the SUV in the 90's, and now it is back to smaller more fuel efficient cars......

But check my sig, I am definitely a wagon guy!

Another Avant guy here (and a Passat wagon too). I always end up paying premium for the Avants, but I love them. I like the sporty look and the trunk space!

no offense to the avant crowd, but station wagons never picked up as 'cool' ...at least in the short time i've been here -- although they are really handy and practical, (as miracle said) the USA experienced the SUV craze for all those who needed more space.

plus if you look at the age poll in the b8 section, most are under 30 if not under 35...not a lot of under-30-males are looking for a station wagon anyway

however...i would take one of these any day!

Avant here too. I've always had sport wagons. The combination of sportiness, luxury, utility and the "sleeper" factor are very appealing to me. Also, since most of NA drives sedans, SUVs and MiniVans my wagon also gets a lot of attention.....and it doesn't hurt that its brilliant red

Unfortunately, due to that low popularity NA is also shutout of the B8 S4 Avant market....but honestly I would rather have an A4 Avant than a S4 sedan. With some tweaking its close enough to the performance and not like the million other sedans on the road. I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford an S4 but I'm just not willing to give up the Avant body style to get one.

In North America wagons have an image of a family car, the opposite of what a young virile independent male would get. I used to hate wagons (I hated hatchbacks too), and I didn't want anything except a sedan. Since I got the B8 Avant it's growing on me, and I also like the CTS Wagon a lot, more so than the sedan. I can't really claim that I'm part of a larger movement, perhaps I'm just getting older and old people get wagons. :)

My absolutely ideal car would be an A5 SportBack, but they don't have that here.

The *only* downer for the US Avants is no Manual transmission.
That aside, I have the fiance going towards the Avant for when the kids arrive

Hopefully by that time the DSG will have the kinks worked out and it'll be an option on the SLine

I'm an Avant driver too but since I'm in Europe I guess it's not too surprising.

Perhaps Avants are more popular over here due to the history of them being the sporty shape. i.e. The B5 RS4 was only ever an Avant.

I had a B6 S4 saloon/sedan and always looked at Avants as having a bit more "X-factor". Glad to me in one now .... even if it is for sensible family reasons.

There is only a multitronic I understand? I've got at the moment an A3 2.0 tdi dsg, which works PERFECT!! But there's no DSG for the B8.... So I decided for the manual 6 speed... Multitronic s*cks...is mine opinion....

S-tronic (DSG) are replacing tiptronic - also in US

All the NA B8 Avants are A4 Petrol 2.0L Turbo Tiptronic (not multitronic/CVT) Quattros....that's it...no other engine/transmission choices.

It is a very strange way Audi offers the different gearboxes in EU - e.g. the 'normal' 3.0 TDI can be ordered with both tiptronic and S-tronic, but the 3.0 TDI clean diesel only with tiptronic, the S-tronic should be more correct here, because it is a CLEAN DIESEL - which is the whole idea (S-tronic has a better diesel economy and therefore lowers the environment emissions).

For now the replacement is been done here in EU - slowly but it is been done. I think the US market will follow - maybe from MY2011 which is mid 2010

I picked up my sport pack avant at Sonnen in Marin on 5/31. I had seen it online for at least a few weeks before. They had 4 or 5 avants, but this was the only sport.

I read in Car & Driver a little bit ago that Audi A4 Avants sell the same amount of Units as Bentley Continental GT. I have nothing agasints avants but i think that speaks alot of what americans actually want. Im a little surprised audi hasnt pulled the avant from usa all together.
