    Question symphonyII can-bus code 01336

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had my radio out a while ago to remove the a/c controls and ash tray so I could install my shifter. Since the reinstallation my radio has never worked the same since.

I did have to enter the security code to get the radio out of safe mode.

    My symptoms now are:
~ radio buttons do not light up when headlights are on
~ radio display is not in the DIS on the instrument cluster
~ only front speakers work, rear door speakers and subwoofer do not work

I am getting the following DTC:

    VAG-COM Version: Release 311.2-N

    Control Module Part Number: 8E0 035 195 A
    Component and/or Version: symphony II NP2 0007
    Software Coding: 00001
    Work Shop Code: WSC 00256

    1 Fault Found:
01336 - Data Bus for Comfort System
    49-00 - No Communications
Any idea what could be the problem? I haven't touched any of the wiring and have also made sure the radio connections are solid. All my fuses are okay as well. Haven't seen any blown fuses.

Do I have to recode the radio via VAG-Com?

    Thanks!

You shouldn't have had to re-enter the safety code, so this is really strange. I'm guessing you've already removed the head unit and double checked that all the connectors were all plugged-in.

    Is your A/C working okay?

Anything else that isn't working as expect in term of comfort "options"?

    A/C works fine.

All other 'comfort' features work fine.

I checked the connections multiple times but I'll check them again.

I need to have a second person verify that the subwoofer is working too. I am not sure if is working. I do know the speakers in the rear doors are not working for when I turn the fader to +10R there is no sound out of the rear doors.

Which wires are for the Can-Bus? I'll have to pull up the Bentley manual and start tracing wires. It would be nice to try someone else's Symphony II to rule out the head unit or my wiring.

Security code after prolonged power loss sounds normal to me.

Also, no communication from radio to DIS and no face plate lighting also "suggest" a can-bus issue. An issue with the physical layer... Focus on pins 7 and 12 on the A connector.

Thanks guys. When I have some time I'll dig into this. Been out of comission this week due to sinus surgery.

    Re: symphonyII can-bus code 01336

I reviewed the wiring diagrams and the rear speakers and subwoofer are run off the amplifier.

I had the radio on (sound out of the front door speakers and dash center speaker) on Saturday. No sound out of the sub. I then unplugged the amp and no change (still sound out the front).

What I don't understand, from the wiring diagrams, is how the amp is tied to the CAN-bus?

I have a lead on an amplifier to see if this fixes the problem.

I figured out the problem and thought I'd provide closure to this thread.

    1) I overlooked the most common of items.... Check the Wiring Connections.

I have a Pioneer Avic D3 I am getting ready to install so I've been going through the wiring to make sure I have that all figured out. In doing so I have been studying the Symphony II non-bose wiring outputs. When viewing my car's Symphony II I only had two connectors plugged in.. The one for power and the one for the front speakers (non-bose has front speakers run off the head unit and the rear speakers are run off the subwoofer).

There is supposed to be a third connector (labeled 'A' in Steph's post above). Upon digging [elbow] deep into my dashboard in search for any loose connectors I found it! The third connector that provides signals and power to the amplifier and rear speakers. When I connected that to the Symphony II I know have the rear speakers working and the sub working and the DIS lights up and the radio lights up when the headlights are on.

SO, I just somehow did not connect that third plug when I had the stereo out for the very first time a little over two years ago. CAN-bus code is now gone.

I missed this because I have been so focused on the engine modifications and getting the car running well with proper software. Now that I have achieved that I have been slowly going through the other issues and found my mistakes.

    My mistake, your fortune.
