3M Headlight Restoration kit for Audi B5 S4

Has anyone had experience with this kit?

Already bought the kit, just want to hear some first hand experiences if available.

I saw bimmerchop's DIY write up after the fact, but just wondering how successful this is? I also posted in the detailing forum but no response.

Looks good. Has sandpaper and polish should work out fine.

Get a set of Lamin-X covers to keep it clear afterwards.

I wouldn't use any headlight restoration kit that uses a drill. Too easy to burn though plastic.

I did my a6 headlights the old fashioned way (wetsand with multiple grits and then plastic polished with a buffing wheel) a while ago and they came out much better than they were.

On my sdn, I just buffed them with plastic polish and they cam back (was not in to bad a shape) the kit looks like a nice; 3M has always been a good product.

I just used 3Ms plastic polish on my DEPOs along with my PC7424 buffer.. Came out really nice, just smoothed them out more or less I didn't have much in the way of haze, if there was any now they are perfect again!

I've also seen/heard great results with Mequires PlasticX

Just did mine and used the 3M kit. Good kit. If your lights are in bad shape get two kits.

If/when I do it again I'm doing it by hand. I thought the drill method was a little inconvenient. Plus it will wear down the brushes in your drill. Not good for your drill. Unless, you have a Harbor Freight drill or something that your not worried about.

Also, pick up some Meguairs PlastX Plastic polish. Go over the lenses again w/ the Meguairs polish and follow up w/ some wax your good to go

I used it on my crown vic and tried to use what was left on the Audi but the kit is not that durable. Worked quit well for one car. If your not removing the lights mask off everything well. I opened the hood and laid towels on everything because there is some over spray as you sand. Take your time stay perpendicular to the work surface and be cautious as you remove the paper from the pads it can tear the pad easily!

Worked well for me, but mine were bad, so I needed more sandpaper than what came in the kit. I happened to have lots of sandpaper, so I did a lot by hand in addition to what the kit came with.

Came out quite well, though.

I second the use of Lamin-X after you are done. I did a headlight restore on my B5 and bought Lamin-X right after. It works so well. I bought it before we started carrying it here at ECS Tuning. Now we offer pre-cut Lamin-X to you at a pretty good price
