    Plastic bondo

I just bought a cracked s4 bumper and it needs to be repaired by me. i searched but did not find a clear answer. I am looking for some kind of plastic type filler. I need something that will adhere to the bumper and not crack after a few months on the road. I do have the plastice bumper repair kits. but now i need something that can be sanded down and shaped but still remain flexible enough not to pop out of the bumper and mess up the paint job.

You want Automix 4040 by 3M. I know people use this for ABS plastic, but there are tons of options.

whatever you do don't go the cheapest route, when you shave corners due to moey it will end up costing you way more in the end and you will hate that you did it the fast and cheap way..."measure twice, cut once"

    Re: Plastic bondo

I just used West System G-Flex epoxy on mine. It is definitely the right stuff for the job.

I made my own Bondo-glass last time around but got the mix wrong. I mixed fiberglass resin and hardener in one cup and Bondo in another. Then added the resin to the bondo, mixed it all up, and then tossed in a bunch of pulled fiberglass mat. It looked like silly putty with matted hair in it. The only problem is that I didn't have enough resin in there to keep it from cracking so it cracked after getting hung up on a snow berm at the end of my driveway. It is now reinforced with the G-Flex and carbon fiber patches on the inside.

    Re: Plastic bondo

No cheap route here Im not going to cut any corner Im only going to shave them.
Looks like the 4240 would work nice for sanding and shaping and would I need to buy the gun or can it be used out of the bottle.

    Re: Plastic bondo

i also recently bought a cracked s4 front bumper...i cut plexy(sp?) glass to the size of the cut, put a layer of epoxy on that, fiberglass cloth and another layer of epoxy. clamped it to the back of the bumper and let it dry. then filled the crack with puddy. a decent amount of work, but it was free bc i had all the materials i used....

and the bumper is very sturdy
    work in progress....

    Re: Plastic bondo

then yes you can repair it... my s4 bumper had the center part busted off. i used fiberglass on the backside of the bumper and used aluminum tape to hold the parts together while i fiberglassed it.

you can kinda see the putty lines along the bottom of the bumper

litterally this whole section all the way along the bottom of the bumper was broken off

    and with some primer
