Battery Swap, Will it Require Radio Code?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have tested my battery on my Audi and it is okay but struggles on cold mornings so I will be replacing it. My question is, when I unhook the battery will that reset my radio and make it so a dealer has to enter the code? If so is there a way to pull the code before I swap batteries?

BTW I did search, couldn't find anything with people before they needed the code. plenty of people after they switched batteries

I replaced my battery and did not need the code. I think you only need it if the radio is removed. My car has also had the battery disconnected for several days when the TC was changed. No radio code needed.

Re: Battery Swap, Will it Require Radio Code?

It depends on the situation. If you are just replacing the battery, you should be fine. The cars electrical system should have plenty of juice sitting in it to maintain the code. As JohnTC mentioned, I have had my car with the battery unhooked for days and not had a problem. Same thing with actually removing the radio for some time and then putting it back in. It would just start right up. That being said, I have also seen cars that needed the code entered when any of the mentioned actions took place.

If the code isn't written down somewhere, you are at the mercy of the stealership .

Couple of weeks late here, but you shouldn't need the code. I had my battery unhooked for almost 4 weeks, and it was fine.

I just replaced my battery this weekend -- you do not need a radio code. Just pull the battery out and put the new one in. Good luck!

well if you need a code in the end dont worry....
i replaced my battery on my old A4 years back and needed a code- went to the Audi dealership, gave them my VIN and they gave me my code in seconds.... free too, I'm thinking it may even be done over phone.

Re: Battery Swap, Will it Require Radio Code?

A little late but for future reference......

"The Symphony II radio has "Smart coding", which makes it unnecessary to enter a code to unlock the radio as long as the radio is installed in the car that it belongs to, even after disconnecting and reconnecting battery power. If you are installing a Symphony II radio in a different car than the one it came in, you must enter the code to unlock the radio. "
