exactly...it's so weird that a $300 TomTom can come with a dozen voices, yet our $2000 OEM system only has one.

i thought it was the american nav in the corvette? either way the bmw guys figured out a way to do it with the bmw mk4 dvd nav units... however it involves cracking and hacking and uploading voice files from at&t... (iirc) i can try to find the links if someone is interested.

my friend wanted to create his own as a prank to load into other peoples GPS... it would be the nervous and unsure version. "turn left in 200 yards. I think... No... Wait... not for a while. OH NO, NEVERMIND, YOU MISSED IT." or "Next left... wait... no. I have the map upside down... make a right... NOW!"

I've got TomTom Navigator software on my phone, and I thought it would be fun to have John Cleese as the voice.

It is, but with one exception;

300 yards before the destination he says "in 300 yards time you will reach your destination but I'm not going to help you with your bags".

Then, 100 yards before the destination he says "in 100 yards time you will reach your destination but I'm not going to help you with your bags".

AND when you reach the destination, he says "you have reached your destination but I'm not going to help you with your bags".

You soon get VERY fed up of him telling you he's not going to help you with your bags!

When driving in Europe the RNS-E uses 2 different voices - the voice of your home language for all the directions (an upper crust English lady we've nicknamed Jane), and the local voice for all town names etc (in France this is a fast talking breathless mademoiselle).

DUUUUUUUUUDE!!!!! I have been wanting to do that for years!!!! I want a female voice with a british accent...and when you don't turn left, she'll say..."you didn't turn left, you naughty boy!" hahahahahaha!

Believe me, I (and a lot of other guys) have been trying...

What really bugs me are:

1) the recorded voice doesn't pronounce the names of several towns close to me correctly. For example, my wife works near "Fareham" which is pronounced fare-um but which the Audi voice pronounces far-am. So clearly when Audi had the town names recorded they didn't bother to verify the pronunciations first.

2) the voice directions for a motorway junction use just the top line of the sign. So when approaching home she tells us to "Keep left onto the M27 towards Airport" - because the sign has Airport as the top line with the town names (Portsmouth, ...) on the 2 lines underneath.

3) road numbers are read in the US style not in the UK style. So when the voice tells you to "turn left onto the A303" (which in the UK is said as A - three-oh-three) she says "A three hundred three".

Each of the 3 different RNS-E's I've had since 2005 have all said three-hundred-three, that's with SW versions from 0050 thru 0650.

Can't remember what the RNS-D in my 2003 S4 said...my memory isn't that good!

i have the most recent firmware and 2009 disc... not sure if this changes anything, but i can almost hear it now in my head... but i can be confusing it with rns-d (which was for a b5 rs4) or mk4 nav for bmw... we'll see this evening i will use it to guide me home.

Nope, my 2005 RNS-E always said three-hundred-three whether it was running old-ish 0450 or up-to-date 0650 software.

Hey! I'm new heer guys! Just picked up an RS4 and my Girl is British! LOL.. I wish we could change the voices! My most current nav CD is from 2007.. Where do we get an updated Nav DVD? I would like to have the latest version.
