    UPS damaged rims in shipping..

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
.. I bought a set of wheels in the classifieds here and when I received the wheels they had scratches and dents on the lip from the shipping. The wheels are BBS CH and the lips are pretty banged up.. here are some pics:

My question is how do I go about filing a claim for this? What do you guys think I should do..

    Thanks.

You may be screwed, usually there is a stipulation that says you must open the package in front of the driver or inspect and show package damage without opening before the driver leaves.

yeah, good luck, damage claims have to happen at the time of delivery. i open EVERY package before the driver leaves and refuse to accept it if its damaged...

I hope you get help but i dont know if you will... maybe go to your local ups and talk to them?

I wasn't around when they delivered them but the person that was home heard the boxes being dropped and went out to ask the guy to please be careful. There were 2 of them, and they set them down gently after that. You shouldn't have to be there to file a claim.. most people arn't even home when a box is delivered.. how would that even make sense.

UPS is a bitch to deal with on damages....

you'd be better off getting the person who sold them to you to file the complaint.

They do that because of incidents like this, I request to be notified an hour before the driver arrives so I can be there, or do scheduled delivery. Sorry to say dude, but you are pretty much fucked.

For packages like that they should be required to have a signature to leave them... If they didnt thats just bad on their part... anything over 100$ that gets shipped to my house wont be left without a signature.
I guess if a signature wasnt required, see if the seller has detailed pictures of the rims prior to shipping, then have your pictures of how they arrived, and go to your local UPS headquarters and raise a little hell...

I would still enter a claim, you have nothing to loose really. I deal with UPS , FedEx shipments on a daily basis and more often than not they try to help you and will take the time to at least look into it. It will however be dificult to prove that these scratches happened during shipment. From what I can see the wheels were no brand new or were they? Usually if the box shows damage you got a case if not you just don't. The good news is that a lot of the scratches can be buffed out...

    Good luck!

been down this road - they will deny the first claim, fight it again!!!

It took me 6 weeks to get my shipping claim when they screwed up a brand new set of wheels I shipped someone.

You and the seller, will both need to file a claim. I shipped a set of wheels to Canada once and UPS bent one wheel during the shipping. I had to assist the buyer in getting the claim by sending UPS photos of what the wheels looked like before they were shipped out.

It can be a pain but UPS did the wheel they bent fixed for my buyer.

Re: UPS damaged rims in shipping..

I have not dealt with a damages claim, but I did deal with a lost item claim. To summarize the story as much as possible:

I shipped a snowboard to a friend. UPS didn't deliver it to his house because he was not home. It sat somewhere in LA for 3 days and then they returned it to me. About a week later (after it had been missing this entire time...their system couldn't find it and their sorting center that last had it couldn't either) it shows up back at my door. I'm not home at the time so the driver just leaves it. Well the box had been beaten to hell and retaped and sure enough there was nothing inside when I got it.

I called UPS Customer Service and they had the driver come by for a pickup to inspect it and take the box back. After a few phone calls with their claims department I had to go back to the UPS Store I shipped it from and provide paperwork to them showing the value ($500) and eventually (about 5 weeks later) I was refunded my money.

So in short, if you keep on it and get the shipper involved you probably won't be screwed. UPS needs to take responsibility for their actions. I've worked in one of their sorting center years ago and trust me, they do not handle packages with any ounce of care and they know it. As someone previously mentioned, if you are denied the first time file again.
